Husky Energy Pact for Canadian Offshore Project

NC-Lavalin, Dragados Canada and Pennecon announced that their General Partnership (GP) has been awarded a construction contract from Husky Energy as part of the company's West White Rose Project in Newfoundland and Labrador. The GP will build a concrete gravity structure (CGS) for a fixed drilling platform. The CGS, with an overall height of 145m and base diameter of 122m, will require 76,000m3 of concrete in its construction, which will take place in a purpose built dry dock from 2017 to 2021. Once completed and installed in the White Rose field, the CGS will support a topside module to enable drilling and oil extraction 350km away from the coast of Newfoundland in the Atlantic Ocean.

Canada Makes Marine Atlantic Board Appointment

Sharon R. Duggan has been appointed to the board of Marine Atlantic Inc. by the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities. Marine Atlantic Inc. is a federal Crown corporation that reports to Parliament through the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities. The corporation provides a constitutionally mandated passenger and commercial marine transportation service between the Island of Newfoundland and the Province of Nova Scotia. Its mission is to provide a safe, environmentally responsible and quality ferry service in a reliable and cost-effective manner. Canadian Maritime Link Cable Project

Maritime Link, is an electrical transmission project to link the island of Newfoundland with Nova Scotia for the first time. NSP Maritime Link Inc, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Emera Newfoundland and Labrador Holdings Inc. and an affiliate of Nova Scotia Power, has filed its Environmental Assessment Report (EA Report) for the Maritime Link Project with the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, Nova Scotia Environment, and Newfoundland & Labrador's Department of Environment and Conservation. This is a major milestone in the federal and provincial environmental assessment processes for the proposed Maritime Link, an electrical transmission project which will link the provinces of Newfoundland & Labrador and Nova Scotia for the very first time.

Canada Invests in Two Ferries for Marine Atlantic

The Honourable Rob Merrifield, Minister of State (Transport), Rob Crosbie, chair of Marine Atlantic Inc.’s (MAI) board of directors, and Wayne Follett, president and chief executive officer of MAI, announced that Marine Atlantic has reached an agreement with Stena Group of Companies to charter two new vessels. The vessels will significantly improve MAI’s ability to provide on-time, reliable service and meet increasing traffic demand between North Sydney, and Newfoundland and Labrador. “Our government is supporting Canada’s economy by investing in new ships to improve Marine Atlantic’s service and reliability,” said Minister Merrifield. “This investment, from Budget 2010, is another signal of our government’s commitment to Atlantic Canada.
