Port2Port, Neptune Maritime Security to Merge

Two global maritime security risk management providers Port2Port Maritime Security and Neptune Maritime Security announced they have agreed to merge. The combined group will provide significant scale and service advantages to the shipping and offshore industries, as well as improving the global reach of both companies. The merger follows an extensive strategic evaluation process between both companies, where key areas such as operational capability, logistics and quality of service were carefully examined to ensure consistent and enhanced service for existing and new clients.

Tundra MDS Earns ISO 28007-1:2015 Accreditation

Tundra Maritime Defense Services (MDS), the maritime division of Tundra Group, announced that it has been awarded full certification and accreditation for the recently issued ISO 28007-1:2015 (Guidelines for Private Maritime Security Companies), following an audit conducted by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA). ISO 28007-1:2015 gives established guidelines to private maritime security companies (PMSC) that supply privately contracted armed security personnel (PCASP) on board ships and the compliance requirements are much more stringent than those required by the ‘old’ ISO/PAS 28007.

Marshall Islands Adopts New Standards for PMSCs

The Marshall Islands, the world’s third largest registry with a fleet of more than 3,640 ships, is the first flag to implement the new rules following revised interim recommendations published in June’s Maritime Safety Committee circular MSC.1/Circ.1406/Rev. At its 95th session, the MSC stated that flag states should ensure that PMSCs onboard ships hold a valid ISO 28007-1:2015 certification. ESC Global Security, an Estonia-based maritime security provider, has been audited according to the new standard. The main difference between the new standard and the existing ISO PAS 28007:2012 version is that it includes a clause to ensure PMSCs have measures and procedures in place that are compliant with international law on human rights.

RINA Tackles Ocean Noise Pollution

International classification society RINA has acted to tackle noise pollution of the seas by developing a voluntary notation which will apply to vessels for which efforts have been made to mitigate underwater noise. Paolo Moretti, Head of the Marine Business Line, RINA Services, said, “Noise is the new pollution. The international community has raised concern that the underwater noise generated by commercial shipping may have negative consequences on marine life, especially marine mammals. IMO has recently published MEPC Circ. 833 “Guidelines For The Reduction Of Underwater Noise From Commercial Shipping To Address Adverse Impacts On Marine Life” which sets out advice on design and operational solutions that may be adopted to reduce underwater radiated noise.

Port2Port Maritime Joins BIMCO

Protection Vessels International Achieves LRQA Accreditation

Private maritime security services provider, Protection Vessels International (PVI), part of Protection Group International, informs that it has achieved ISO/PAS 28007 certification from Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA). Tundra Maritime Defense Services (MDS), the maritime division of Tundra Group, announce that it has now been formally awarded full certification and accreditation for ISO 28000 including ISO/PAS 28007:2012 (Guidelines for Private Maritime Security Companies), following Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) being appointed as a ‘Certifying Body’ (CB) against ISO/PAS 28007 by the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS). Neptune announce that it has been certified by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) to ISO PAS 28007. The PAS, as part of the ISO 28000 family of security standards, gives established guidelines to private maritime security companies (PMSC) providing armed guards to ships. Certification to the standards demonstrates to clients and stakeholders that Neptune Maritime Security and its operatives can legally, safely and effectively guard their people, assets and reputation having undergone a rigorous and internationally recognised process.

Tundra MDS Completes Stage 1 of ISO 14001:2004

Tundra Incorporates Security Management System

Tundra Maritime Defense Services (MDS) has completed Stage 1 of the ISO/PAS 28007 process in collaboration with Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA). Already SAMI Stage 1 and ISO 9001 certified, Tundra MDS have now incorporated a Security Management System (SMS) which they say allows them to demonstrate their reliability and professionalism to potential customers measured against a consistent and highly-demanding International Standard.
