DOE Grants Lake Charles LNG Additional Time to Commence Exports
U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright today signed an amendment order granting additional time for Energy Transfer’s Lake Charles LNG Export Company, LLC to commence exports of LNG to non-free trade agreement (non-FTA) countries from the Lake Charles LNG project in Lake Charles, LA.Once fully constructed, the Lake Charles LNG project will be capable of exporting up to 2.33 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of natural gas as LNG.Lake Charles LNG was originally configured as an LNG import terminal but is now being developed as an LNG export terminal.
US Permit Crackdown Poses New Hurdles for Proposed LNG Projects
The U.S. Department of Energy's refusal to grant export permit extensions to liquefied natural gas (LNG) developers that fail to meet a construction deadline poses a new hurdle for greenfield plants, analysts said on Thursday. The DOE last month said it would grant future extensions solely on extenuating circumstances and rejected an extension for Energy Transfer's proposed Lake Charles LNG project. The change will fall heavily on firms without a track record and available financing, analysts said.Around a dozen LNG projects in the U.S.
Rising Calls for U.S. LNG Revive Stalled Export Projects, but at Higher Costs
Soaring demand for U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) as buyers steer clear of Russian fuel is putting some long-stalled U.S. export projects back on track. But rising costs for materials and labor threaten to snarl these plants once again. Two developers with projects sidelined due to the U.S.-China trade war – Energy Transfer with its Lake Charles LNG and Tellurian Inc with its Driftwood LNG – have begun talks with construction provider Bechtel Group over costs, according to a…
Shell to Exit Lake Charles LNG Project
Royal Dutch Shell said on Monday it will exit the Lake Charles liquefied natural gas export project in Louisiana, citing the plunge in oil prices due to the coronavirus pandemic. The project is a 50-50 venture with U.S. midstream company Energy Transfer, which said in a separate statement it will take over development of the project.(Reporting by Shradha Singh in Bengaluru; Editing by Aditya Soni)
FERC Approves Lake Charles LNG Project
The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has granted approval for the Lake Charles LNG export project, which will see the construction and operation of a natural gas liquefaction and export facility in Lake Charles, La. With FERC approval, the Lake Charles LNG project has now received the key remaining regulatory consent, according to BG Group, who is developing the project with Energy Transfer Equity LP and Energy Transfer Partners, L.P. The project has conditional authorization from the U.S. Department of Energy for the export of up to 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day or approximately 15 million metric tons of LNG per annum. Energy Transfer owns an existing LNG regasification facility in Lake Charles, which will be converted to a liquefaction facility.
BG, Energy Transfer get Nod for Lake Charles LNG
BG Group and Energy Transfer Partners have gained approval from the U.S. energy regulator for their liquefied natural gas (LNG) production and export plant in Lake Charles, Louisiana, the companies said. The go-ahead is a key milestone for the project, one of an array of planned U.S. LNG export plants set to bring shale gas to gas-hungry consumers across the globe. The partners said they would take a final investment decision on the project, expected to export around 15 million metric tonnes of LNG a year, in 2016 and that first LNG exports from the plant could follow four years after construction starts. "Lake Charles LNG has the potential to create several thousand jobs during construction and if fully operational could result in approximately 250 long-term operational positions…
BG Group's Australian Project Helping to Double LNG Supplies
A smooth start to operations at BG Group's Australian project in Queensland is expected to help the British company to roughly double its liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies in 2015/16, it said on Wednesday. Seven cargoes have been shipped since December from the Queensland Curtis LNG facility, said Steve Hill, BG Group's head of global energy marketing and shipping. The plant is expected to stop operations for about a week of maintenance in the near term before ramping up to full capacity, allowing it to ship about one cargo a week. In the United States, BG Group has signed a purchase agreement for Cheniere Energy's Sabine Pass LNG terminal, with first deliveries due in December.
Panama Canal Inks Deal with Lake Charles Port
The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) signed a cooperation agreement with the Port of Lake Charles in Louisiana earlier this week, which aims to attract new customers from the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry; a strategy that builds upon the advantages that the expanded Canal will offer. Currently, LNG vessels cannot transit through the waterway due to their beam dimensions, which are too wide to fit the existing locks. The agreement will promote cooperation in marketing activities, information exchange, market research, training and technology, among other initiatives that will benefit both the Canal and the Port of Lake Charles. The Port of Lake Charles is a deep water port with entry into the Gulf of Mexico…

BG Group Selects Rolls-Royce Trent 60 DLE
Rolls-Royce is proud to announce that BG Group has selected the Trent 60 DLE industrial gas turbine as the driver for the main refrigeration compressors in the proposed Lake Charles LNG Export project in Louisiana, USA. BG Group and Rolls-Royce have also agreed the terms of a Long Term Service Agreement covering the support and maintenance of the equipment for up to 25 years that will help deliver high levels of availability for this important LNG plant. Both the equipment and service contracts are expected to be activated in the first half of 2015, subject to the US LNG plant permitting process and final investment decisions by BG Group and Energy Transfer, the developers of the project.
DOE Authorizes Third Proposed Facility to Export LNG
The Energy Department announced it has conditionally authorized Lake Charles Exports, LLC (Lake Charles) to export domestically produced liquefied natural gas (LNG) to countries that do not have a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States from the Lake Charles Terminal in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Lake Charles previously received approval to export LNG from this facility to FTA countries on July 22, 2011. Subject to environmental review and final regulatory approval, the facility is conditionally authorized to export at a rate of up to 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas a day (Bcf/d) for a period of 20 years. The Department granted the first authorization to export LNG to non-FTA countries in May 2011 from the Sabine Pass LNG Terminal in Cameron Parish…
