IHC Merwede Reveals Healthy Orderbook

IHC Merwede successfully increased its orderbook in 2013 across the main sectors of its business: offshore and dredging. The company received almost € 1.8 billion worth of new orders in the past year. At the end of 2013, the order book was valued at over € 1.7 billion, which is the equivalent of a backlog of approximately two years. IHC Merwede develops and builds innovative vessels, advanced equipment and life-cycle support services for the dredging, mining and offshore industries.

IHC Merwede Reveals Healthy Profit Margin

IHC Merwede has revealed a healthy net profit margin of 4.1% in 2012 and a positive sales forecast for the year ahead. The company develops and builds vessels, equipment and life-cycle support services for the dredging, mining and offshore industries, which have been performing well – despite the global economic situation and the knock-on effect for the maritime industry. In 2012, IHC Merwede reached a revenue of €895 million and a net profit of €37 million. After the exceptional years of 2010 and 2011, the revenue and profitability were lower last year.

L-3 Unidyne Wins $69m Contract

L-3 Unidyne has been awarded a contract valued at over $69 million to provide life-cycle support services for U.S. Navy towed arrays, including both surface ship and submarine applications for the Commander, Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Newport Division. The scope of the contract will be performed primarily in Newport, R.I., but could also involve technical assistance wherever U.S. Navy submarines and surface combatants are located. Work, with the exercise of contract options, is expected to be completed by June 2015. The purpose of the contract is to sustain a sufficient inventory of towed array assets to support operational and mission readiness of the submarines and surface ships that deploy them.

Topaz Confirms Delivery Wind-farm Vessels

Renaissance Services subsidiary, Topaz Engineering, a UAE-based full service ship building, ship repair and engineering services company announced it has completed the delivery of two wind farm support vessels (WFSV) to ASP Work Boats Ltd, part of the global ASP Ship Management Group. David Borcoski, Group MD and CEO of ASP Ship Management Group said: “Topaz Engineering has done an excellent job in completing the construction of our wind farm support vessels and delivering them within the time-frame requested.

New Navy Contracts

General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine, is being awarded a $26,755,525 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-06-C-2303) to provide additional systems engineering services associated with the detail, design, and construction of the DDG 1000 Zumwalt-class destroyer. Systems engineering efforts include detail design excursions, shock qualification, production process prototype manufacturing, and life cycle support services prior to post shakedown availability. Work will be performed in Bath, Maine, and is expected to be completed by December 2010. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity. BAE Systems U.S.

New Navy Contract

General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine, is being awarded a $6,862,387 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-06-C-2303) to exercise an option for additional systems engineering and class logistics services associated with the detail design and construction of the DDG 1000 Zumwalt Class destroyer. Systems engineering efforts include detail design excursions, shock qualification, production process prototype manufacturing, and life cycle support services prior to post shakedown availability. Class logistics efforts provide for the continued development of integrated logistics support for the DDG 1000 class, including development of training curriculum, supply support documentation, maintenance analyses, and configuration status accounting.

Litton Integrates Marine Ops In New Company

The consolidation of marine industry assets in the United States has taken a rather unique twist, as Litton Industrys – with a strategy of becoming the marine industry's full-service leader – announced the formation of a new company, the Litton Ship Systems Full Service Center (LSS FSC). Litton, which for years has been amassing an impressive arsenal of marine equipment builders and suppliers from around the globe, formed LSS FSC to operate as a stand-alone business within the existing Litton Ship Systems (LSS) organization, with headquarters in Pascagoula, Miss. LSS FSC will provide its customers a full range of research and development, design analysis and life cycle support services.

AMSEC Acquires Planning Consultants

AMSEC LLC has completed the acquisition of Planning Consultants, Incorporated (PCI), a Navy combat systems engineering company with headquarters in Virginia Beach, Va. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. AMSEC LLC, also headquartered in Virginia Beach, is a full-service Naval and marine engineering company providing life-cycle support services to the defense and shipbuilding industries in 30 cities across the United States, as well as overseas. The acquisition of PCI expands AMSEC LLC's capabilities in the Aegis and other Naval combat systems engineering programs. PCI's core Naval combat systems competencies include systems engineering, software development, test and evaluation, interoperability analysis and test support, and in-service operational technical support.
