New Marina for Luxury Yachts at DP World's Rashid Port

DP World has announced plans to build a new marina for luxury yachts at Port Rashid in Dubai. The project comes in response to an increased demand for luxury yachts. Tenders for construction will be invited soon. The first phase of the project is scheduled to open by 2018, with a capacity of more than 400 boats and sailing yachts with lengths in the range of 15 to 35 metres. Luxury Yacht Industry Booming

Reflecting continued optimism in the face of a rapidly changing global and political climate, new orders for luxury yachts grew 7.9 percent compared with year-earlier figures. The increase was spurred primarily by orders for motor yacht projects of 80 to 119 ft. (24 to 36 m), as well as those 150 ft. and larger. Italy retained its position as the world's leading luxury yacht-building nation, with 260 units and 29,804 linear feet of boats. The United States again placed second, with 85 units accounting for 10,621 linear feet. The Netherlands and the United Kingdom retained third and fourth place, respectively, while Germany surged to fifth.

China Company Takes Over Sunseeker International

The Dalian Wanda Group, one of the largest Chinese property and cinema groups, will acquire almost 92 percent stake in the leading global luxury yacht company, Sunseeker International Limited, for about GBPDS 320-million. MARIS Makes Agreement With Peter Johansen Group

Under the name Royal Denship the Peter Johansen Group is building a series of super luxury yachts for foreign owners. These yachts are being built at several Danish shipyards. The agreement includes deliveries of the following products from MARIS: ARPA2000 Radar/ARPA automatic radar plotting aid, ECDIS900 electronic chart display and information system, VDR2000 voyage data recorder. The yachts are also equipped with LCD screens in all cabins, living areas, and the fly bridge, enabling totally independent access to centrally stored movies and music as well as the super luxury yachts navigational information, communication and security units. The entertainment systems are delivered by Peter Johansen Group A/S.

Yacht Charters in Hawaii

One of the often overlooked ways to enjoy a vacation to Hawaii is to charter a luxury yacht for a private cruise. There are many options for boat rentals in Hawaii, but they are typically old, rusty boats that are jam packed with tourists. Not exactly the best way to enjoy paradise. Dubai Eyes 1 Million Cruise Tourists

Dubai plans to build a marina for luxury yachts in response to high demand as the emirate is targeting one million cruise passengers per year by 2020, said Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation. The increase will mostly come from beefing up infrastructure at the region’s largest cruise terminal, Mina Rashid, which will also include building a marina for luxury yachts. The government is investing heavily to transform its most popular port, Mina Rashid, into a world-class cruise destination.

Marine Onboard Renewable Power Deal Struck

Capstone Turbine Corporation (www.capstoneturbine.com), a manufacturer of microturbines, entered into an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement with Kilo-Pak for microturbine-based onboard power packages for the marine industry.Onboard power plays a crucial role on commercial vessels and luxury yachts, providing power for navigation, communication and computer systems; on-board lights; heat; galley and elevator operations; helicopter landing pads; and more. Kilo-Pak, a Reagan Equipment subsidiary, developed a traditional onboard-power generator for the luxury yacht market in 2008 that uses diesel engines. First Aluminium Yacht for Vulkan Shipyard

New Ultra-Luxury Vessel, Seaborne Odyssey

The Yachts of Seabourn launched Seabourn Odyssey from Venice as the first ultra-luxury vessel to debut in six years. The 32,000-ton vessel built by T. Mariotti of Genoa, Italy, accommodates 450 guests in 225 luxury suites, ninety percent with verandas, offering one of the highest space-per-guest ratios in the industry with highly personalized service. Princess Yachts Use Goliaths by Street Crane

Princess Yachts, luxury yacht builders, are using freestanding Goliath cranes from Street Crane Company to produce their new 30 to 40 metre M Class tri-deck yachts. The cranes, installed at the historic South Yard of the Devonport Dockyard, will allow large fabrications to be lifted, transported and accurately placed as the yachts are fitted out. There are three cranes in use. The main manufacturing area is serviced by two mirror image Goliath cranes of 16 tonnes safe working load, each spanning 13.75 metres.

Tricon Marine Breaks Ground on Chinese Yard

Imtech received orders from numerous ship owners and German shipyards for technological solutions on board several German yachts and cruise ships. These orders are worth a total of over $64. In the second half of 2005, Imtech has seen the maritime market segment for luxury yachts and cruise ships pick up in a number of European countries. Especially Germany has undergone a positive market development. Imtech a very strong player in this segment in Europe. The new ZF 9000 Series transmissions from ZF Marine are the latest in a long history of industry leading marine transmissions designed to handle the demands of high-power engines. Imtech Acquires Van Berge Henegouwen Installations

Imtech announces the acquisition of Van Berge Henegouwen Installaties B.V. (VBH). The total purchase price (including earn-out) is based on about five times the EBIT and will be paid in cash. The acquisition will contribute directly to the profit per share. The management of VBH will stay on after the acquisition. VBH is a specialist in the field of maritime technology for luxury yachts, such as high-tech entertainment (multimedia, audio and video), communication, security and operational systems, navigation and computer networks. Burger Boat Appoint Thom Conboy Commercial Director

Burger Boat Company, celebrating its 150th anniversary, announce the appointment of Thom Conboy as its Commercial Director. As Commercial Director, Thom will be working closely with the shipyard in Manitowoc, WI to secure new construction, refit and repair projects as well as heading its yacht brokerage and charter division at Burger Yacht Sales. Thom's yachting career spans over 30 years. He is an avid sailor and held positions as captain, project manager, yacht builder, shipyard owner and superyacht broker.

Dockwise Yacht Transport Business Sold by Boskalis

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) has completed the sale of Dockwise Yacht Transport (DYT to Sevenstar Yacht Transport B.V. based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. With the acquisition of Dockwise in March 2013, Boskalis also acquired the activities of Dockwise Yacht Transport (DYT). DYT's core business is the transatlantic transportation of luxury yachts between Florida, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. Boskalis considers that these activities have no strategic value and do not fit with the group's existing core business.

Third Superyacht under Construction at Sunrise Yachts

After successful launches of two 45m Sunrise vessels – superyacht Africa (2009) and luxury yacht Atomic (2014) – the Turkish shipyard has recently laid the keel of the third 45m motor yacht at its yard in Antalya, with a scheduled completion time of 26 months. The Sunrise 45 metre is a luxurious full-displacement motor yacht offering remarkable volumes at 499 GT, and unusual deck heights. The third one is now in build currently at their Antalya facilities is another tri-deck. The full displacement megayacht has had her keel laid already and having her structure fleshed out.

Windstar Debuts All Suite Power Yacht
