Oceanographic research vessel Marion Dufresne II is celebrating her 20th anniversary in 2015 and has finished a major refit that will extend her life for a further 20 years. Leading electrical system integrator Alewijnse Marine Systems has successfully completed the electrical conversion. During a four month stay at Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque from April to July 2015, the French scientific research vessel Marion Dufresne II underwent a major refit that included extensive work on her hull, machinery, public spaces and scientific equipment.

French scientific research vessel completely renovated in life extension project. French research vessel Marion Dufresne II left Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque (part of Damen Shiprepair & Conversion) in northern France on July 28 having recently undergone sea trials and a complete renovation. Delivered on time, the oceanographic research vessel set sail for the Port of La Réunion where she will resume her logistic and scientific journey to the French Southern and Antarctic Lands.

French scientific research vessel completely renovated in life extension project The renowned French research vessel, Marion Dufresne II left Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque (part of Damen Shiprepair & Conversion) in northern France on 28 July having recently undergone sea trials and a complete renovation. Delivered on time, the oceanographic research vessel set sail for the Port of La Réunion where she will resume her logistic and scientific journey to the French Southern and Antarctic Lands. “The excellent cooperation between the yard and the vessel’s crew was important in this project’s successful planning, coordination and execution. We rebuilt a large part of the vessel within 4 months to extend her life by 20 years.

Research Vessel Gets 20-year Life Extension

French research vessel, Marion Dufresne II arrived at Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque on March 14 for a project that aims to extend her life by a further 20 years. The work will span a total of four months. On March 30, the vessel went into drydock for a six-week period, during which the yard will carry out an extensive scope of work. The multipurpose vessel is owned by Les Terres australes et antarctiques français (TAAF) and managed by CMA CGM. Marion Dufresne II carries out oceanographic research under the responsibility of the Institut Polaire Paul-Eimile Victor (IPEV).
