ABB Wins LNG Propulsion Contract

Chantiers de l´Atlantique, ALSTOM Group, has awarded ABB Marine a contract to supply the electric propulsion system for a new 153,000 cu. M. LNG carrier, owned by Gaz de France. The vessel will be built in France by Chantiers de l´Atlantique and delivered in 2005. The supply of medium voltage power systems to LNG carriers has been a strong growth area for ABB. According to Martinus Brandal, head of ABB´s global Marine business, β€œIn the last three years, we have received orders for medium-voltage systems for 23 LNG carriers with conventional steam turbine propulsion. To the new Gaz de France LNG carrier, ABB will supply a complete propulsion drive system in a redundant electrical configuration.

Aker Kvaerner Appoints Helsing EVP

Pål Helsing was appointed Executive Vice President for Aker Kvaerner's Business Area Field Development, succeeding Simen Lieungh. Helsing will be a member of the Executive Management Team reporting to Martinus Brandal, President & CEO. Helsing comes from Subsea, one of Aker Kvaerner's five Business Areas, where he was Senior Vice President for Subsea Systems. Helsing has worked with Aker Kvaerner since 1993, and has extensive industry experience from several high-level management positions within the company in Norway and internationally. Before starting with Aker Kvaerner, Helsing worked with FMC Kongsberg as Engineering Manager. He obtained his academic education from Glasgow University and the Norwegian School of Management.

Brandal Takes Over as CEO of Aker Kvaerner

Martinus Brandal, former Executive Vice President of Aker ASA assumes the role of president and CEO of Aker Kvaerner, succeeding Inge K. Hansen. Hansen joins Aker ASA as a consultant to the group's management. Martinus Brandal joined Aker in the summer of 2004, and has held a number of Board positions at Aker Group companies. He is very familiar with Aker Kvaerner as a result of being a board member of the company and assisting in developing the strategy that the company has followed in the last two years. He will continue to serve as a board member of Aker Yards. Prior to joining Aker, Brandal was in charge of the Process Automation business area of the ABB industrial group and he has extensive international oil and gas experience. The planned succession of former CEO Inge K.
