Vosta LMG Successfully Tests Dredging Connection

A new “quick connect dredge hose coupling” designed by Vosta LMG has been successfully tested in the United States in a joint effort with a USA customer. The new coupling was developed to enhance safety and to make the assembly and disassembly procedures for floating dredge hoses easier and faster, which is traditionally slow and labor intensive due to the use of bolted flange connections. The reduction in down time caused by speeding up the process can be a major cost saving in dredging operations.

Empire Magnetics President Richard Halstead discusses the critical considerations necessary for engines operating in Arctic waters. A large number of vessels sail in more than one ocean, from warmer seas to arctic waters, so motors for marine applications must be versatile enough to operate in a variety of conditions. While the greater majority of my experience involves building motors for use in fin controls on mini submarines, robot arms on deep sea remotely operated vehicles (ROVs)…

Industrial Pressure Washers Kill Viruses

Image: Water Cannon

Water Cannon Pressure Washers deliver a wide swath of low pressure 180 degree F. hot (Hot Water Heater required at water source) or ambient temperature water injected with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (household bleach) and calcium hypochlorite (bleach powder). This application for 10 minutes on concrete, brick, stone or metal surfaces will kill viruses including influenza (repeat if needed). Water Cannon products, which are already used extensively in the poultry industry to fight avian flu, can be used indoors powered by an electric motor.

Small Boat Construction Using 3D Modeling

Developments in boatbuilding have been driven by needs to simplify the engineering and manufacturing components. One desired effect is, of course, to become more competitive; one can look ? for example ? at the fast ferry industry, which in some instances has had significant problems in controlling engineering and manufacturing costs. Rolf Oetter has developed shipbuilding software for more than a decade. Through his international contacts with shipyards and designers, he has gained insight into many different ship productions procedures. Rolf Bjornert has used aluminum as a construction material and developed and built a number of smaller hulls, some of them with rather complex shapes.
