Orsel Takes the Helm as ECSA's First Female President
Karin Orsel has been appointed the first female President ever in the history of the European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA), starting on January 1, 2024 for a two-year term, with Mikki Koskinen joining as the new Vice-President. Thun Tankers Adds New Tanker to Gothia
Swedish shipping company Thun Tankers has taken delivery of the third of five L-class product tankers from China’s Avic Dingheng. Just like her sister ships, Thun Lidkoping and Thun London, the new vessel Thun Liverpool will enter the Gothia Tanker Alliance network.Thun Tankers took delivery of the 18,650-dead-weight product tanker on Wednesday (November 13).The L-class series have been designed and developed in-house, using the Erik Thun group’s long experience of building sustainable, high quality vessels.Focus on environmental care, new regulations and customers’ needs has been key in the design and building process of this vessel type.The new tanker will enter into the Gothia Tanker Alliance network with crewing and technical management done by MF Shipping Group.
Diversity, Tech on Tap at WISTA Conference
A top hostage negotiator, the CEO of a company which supplies environmental products to ship owners and operators and the heads of two maritime technology firms are all part of an impressive line-up of speakers scheduled to speak at the 2019 Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) AGM & Conference which takes place next week from Tuesday, October 29, to Friday, November 1. The four-day event is being hosted by WISTA Cayman Islands and is expected to bring over 200 maritime experts from 30-plus countries.
2nd L-Class Tanker Delivered to Thun Tankers

Thun Tankers Takes Delivery of Two Vessels
The Swedish tanker operator Thun Tankers takes delivery of first L-Class and second E-Class on the same day. Both vessels will enter the Gothia Tanker Alliance network.On May 9th, Thun Tankers took delivery of the 18,650 deadweight product tanker “Thun Lidkoping”. This L-Class vessel is the first in a series of five resource efficient, high quality tankers built by Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding Ltd in China.On the same day, the 8,000 deadweight “Thun Evolve” was delivered to Thun Tankers by Ferus Smit BV in the Netherlands. The dual fuelled vessel, that will use natural gas or biogas as fuel, is the second in a series of four ordered E-Class tankers.
Winners of International Seafarers' Welfare Awards
The winners of ISWAN's International Seafarers' Welfare Awards 2016 were announced on 24th June at a high-profile ceremony held in Manila, the Philippines. The ceremony forms part of ISWAN's celebrations in the Philippines for the IMO Day of the Seafarer. The awards were presented by IMO Secretary General Mr Kitack Lim to seven recipients who have provided exceptional services for the welfare and wellbeing of seafarers. The Welfare Personality of the Year Award is named after Dr Dierk Lindemann who sadly passed away on 17 March 2014. Dr Lindemann served as the Shipowner's Group spokesperson at the ILO and took a lead role in the adoption of the Maritime Labour Convention. MF Shipping’s Orsel to Keynote WISTA Luncheon
Karin Orsel, a prominent leader in the shipping industry and President and CEO of MF Shipping Group, will be the keynote speaker at WISTA USA’s tenth annual luncheon, kicking off the Connecticut Maritime Association’s Shipping 2015 conference. The luncheon is scheduled for March 23, 2015 at the Hilton Stamford in Stamford, Connecticut. “We are pleased that Karin Orsel will be sharing her experiences as a business owner and thought leader in the maritime industry,” said Alexandra Anagnostis-Irons, WISTA USA President and Total Marine Solutions owner/founder.
