The Board of Viking Supply Ships AB (under name change from Rederi AB Transatlantic) has decided to appoint Christian W. Berg as CEO of the company with immediate effect. Christian will in parallel continue as head of the Viking Supply Ships business area just as today. Christian W. Berg is born 1968 and has since 2011 been head of the business area Viking Supply Ships, coming previously from Chief Commercial Officer in Siem Offshore (2008-2011) which is a company listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange. From 1999 to 2008, Christian has had various leading positions at several companies, such as Promarine Ltd and Promarine AS, NavTech AS in Egersund and Horizon Mobile Communications in Singapore. Canadian naval architecture firm Navtech designed the recently delivered 'Peter Fraser', a 33-meter Ro-Ro ferry for operation on the St. Lawrence River in shallow waters between Isle- Verte and Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs. As a 100 metric-ton bollard pull ice class tug, the OCEAN Tundra is reportedly the most powerful harbor tugboat to ever be built in Canada. SSI's ShipConstructor CAD/CAM application was used to construct this vessel. SSI client Robert Allan Ltd. produced the design and SSI's dealer, Navware, and the associated marine engineering firm, Navtech, worked with OCEAN Industries during the production design and engineering of the tugboat. The project was so successful that OCEAN Industries decided to standardize on using ShipConstructor for future projects.

Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd and Société des Traversiers du Québec have both ordered new passenger ferry designs from Deltamarin. Both companies named sustainable design and excellent energy efficiency as important criteria in the designs. The order of the Scottish Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) comprises the concept design of two small RoPax ferries (311.6 ft & 114.8 ft). The designs will be used as tendering specifications to shipyards. CMAL are intending to commence a fleet replacement program in the near future, and these ferries will be a part of it. ShipConstructor Software Inc. client, Navtech Canada Inc., is enjoying a twenty-five per cent rise in revenues. Navtech is a naval architecture firm situated in the heart of old Quebec City at the mouth of the St. Lawrence River. The scope of their service includes naval architecture, marine engineering, brokerage and maritime surveys. Their latest project is a ferry consisting of 5,000 parts, all of which were designed in ShipConstructor, did not require any adjustments and fit perfectly, thus enabling the shop floor to reduce waste. Barbeau explains that by using ShipConstructor, Navtech can go into deeper detail with designs, an attribute reflected by the ease of construction and the high quality of the finished product.

The TT Club is urging container terminal operators to fit electronic sensor devices to quay crane booms to prevent them accidentally colliding with vessels during loading and unloading operations in port. The TT Club says that crane booms colliding with the structure or equipment of a ship is an all-to-common occurrence at almost every port around the world, causing serious injuries to workers and costly repairs and operational downtime. In advising its Members and the industry at large, TT Club highlights the frequency of such collisions, and recommends installing effective boom anti-collision systems. Among the various types of device currently in use, the simplest consists of wires run along the length of the crane boom, which activate a switch to stop the crane if they are hit.
