APM Terminals Mumbai Adds New Arabian Gulf/Mediterranean Direct Service

French based CMA-CGM, a member of the Ocean Alliance, began the new INDIAMED service to Mumbai with the arrival of the 5,009 TEU capacity CMA CGM Virginia at APM Terminals Mumbai. The service, linking South Asia with ports in the Arabian Gulf and Mediterranean, was officially introduced on July 2nd, operating with vessels provided by CMA-CGM, its APL subsidiary, and Chinese-based Alliance partner COSCO. The weekly INDIAMED service provides the fastest transit times between India and CMA CGM hub ports in the Mediterranean and Arabian Gulf, and expands the transshipment network through the MEGEM (East Mediterranean to/from Middle East destinations) and MEDEX (West Mediterranean to/from Middle East and Indian Sub-Continent) services.

Keppel Corporation Appoints New Board Director

Keppel Corporation Limited (Keppel) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Tan Puay Chiang (陈培璋) as Independent Director on the Board with effect from June 20, 2012. Mr Tan, 65, is a veteran in the oil, gas and petrochemicals sector. During his 38-year career with Mobil Oil and later ExxonMobil, he held executive management roles in Australia, Singapore and the United States. These included the positions of Vice-President, Mobil Research & Technology Corp, USA and Chairman & Managing Director of Mobil Oil Australia. Mr Tan retired as Chairman, ExxonMobil (China) Investment Co in 2008. Dr Lee Boon Yang, Chairman, Keppel Corporation, said, "We welcome Puay Chiang to the Board. Mr Tan is a non-executive Independent Director of Singapore Power and Neptune Orient Line.

NOL Reports Half Profit of $1M

In summarizing his company's results, Flemming R. "We have achieved much. We came from a difficult past and we are on the right track to return to full health, but we are not there yet. We would have preferred a little more time to consolidate all we have achieved and are achieving before having to deal with a severe downturn in the economic environment like this one. "Today the NOL Group is clearly focused on building its three core businesses: APL, the Liner business; APL Logistics (APLL); and the tanker business, American Eagle Tankers (AET). Volumes in Europe were up 14 percent and rates up 1 percent, while in Asia/Middle East rates were up three percent.

Containership Agency Founder and Chairman Dies at 68

Former chairman and founder of Containership Agency, Inc., Rolf D. Hartmann, died on Sunday, March 17, 2002, at his home in Manesota Key, Fla. He was 68 years old. Originally from Bremen, Germany, Hartmann descends from long line of family ship owners and operators. His father was founder and director of F.W. Hartmann & Co., Inc., which provided steamship agency and related services, and his grandfather was Managing Director of Hansa Line of Germany. Rolf Hartmann graduated from Phillips Exeter and Harvard University. After serving in the U.S. Coast Guard as a commissioned officer, he spent his entire career in the U.S. shipping industry. Founder of Containership Agency, Inc., an agent for foreign steamship companies, he served as its president and CEO beginning in 1971.

Wärtsilä´s Orderbook Strengthens

Wärtsilä Corp. has reported a healthy increase in orders for Sulzer RTA-series low-speed engines to be manufactured in the group's Trieste factory in Italy. This year orders have been booked for 16 such engines with an aggregate power of 351.7 MW for delivery to European shipyards. Together with Sulzer low-speed engines, the factory builds a wide range of four-stroke types from the Wärtsilä 26X through the Sulzer ZA40S up to the Wärtsilä 64 type. Since the factory came under Wärtsilä management in 1997, considerable efforts have been put intomaking the factory more competitive, not just within Europe but on a world basis. The first order this year was for four Sulzer 7RTA72U-B low-speed engines for the German shipyard Aker MTW Werft GmbH in Wismar on the Baltic coast.

ExxonMobil Marine Fuels (EMMF), says it has been greatly encouraged by customer response to the quality of its 500 cSt fuel. Orient Line's (NOL) large containerships. than lighter ones. competitors. Singapore fuel and a competitor's 380cSt Singapore fuel. performance. they did with the 380cSt fuel. 500cSt fuel was also confirmed as marginal. savings were made. and a Singapore competitor's fuel ordered at 380cSt but supplied at 225cSt. considerations with all fuel supplied by EMMF.

NOL Reports First Half Profit of $11M

"2001 is proving a tough year -- and, while this result is disappointing, we have to remember where we started from and accept that sustained profitability is not achieved magically overnight," Jacobs said. The Group recorded serious losses in 1997-98 when the Asian crisis hit just as it had purchased the American liner business, APL.
