CMA CGM, IBM Sign Five Year Agreement
Partnership links world’s third largest shipping company with world leading technology services company. After five years of working together through a joint subsidiary, CMA CGM Group and IBM today announced a new strategic partnership. Under the terms of the five-year agreement, IBM will provide industry-specific expertise in new technologies such as cloud computing and analytics, and support CMA CGM’s growth by delivering superior quality information technology services that will help CMA CGM significantly reduce costs. The IT teams from the two companies will be merged into a new subsidiary, CMA Systems, which will have an equally represented governance structure and report directly to Jacques R. Saadé, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CMA CGM.
VARD Takes a Foothold in Canada
Designers and shipbuilders of offshore and specialized vessels VARD says it has established a new subsidiary for ship design, engineering and sales activities in Canada. CEO and Executive Director Roy Reite commented, “Our establishment in Canada is VARD’s first foothold in North America. VARD explains that it provides a wide range of services including ship design, marine electronics and electrical systems, equipment packages and support for all aspects of the shipbuilding process. The new subsidiary will offer such services as part of their product range.
Japan's KHI to Spin Off Shipbuilding
The Kyodo news service has reported that Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. of Japan will spin off its shipbuilding division on Oct. 1 into a new wholly owned subsidiary. The new subsidiary will reportedly be known as Kawasaki Shipbuilding Corp., and will specialize in the manufacture of ships and related equipment, Kawasaki Heavy said in a release. The spinoff is designed to create an efficient corporate structure that will enable the shipbuilding arm to cope with the global shipbuilding industry's oversupply and operate profitably in the long term by giving its managers greater leeway in running it, Kawasaki Heavy said. Raytheon Anschütz Opens in Rio de Janeiro
Raytheon Anschütz has established a new subsidiary Raytheon Anschuetz do Brasil Sistemas Marítimos Ltda. With the new company, Raytheon Anschütz intends to expand its sales and service activities in South America. Headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, Raytheon Anschuetz do Brasil will provide Brazilian shipyards and shipowners with local know-how in maritime system integration and after sales services. This includes supply and systems integration for Raytheon Anschütz navigation components: gyro compasses, autopilots and steering systems, Radars, ECDIS, and complete integrated bridge systems.
Oceanwide Expands Into Denmark
Oceanwide, an international employment agency in the maritime field, signed an agreement to acquire Haraship Manning Aps of Denmark. The new subsidiary will start operating under the name Oceanwide Haraship Denmark Aps. Haraship Manning Aps is a crewing company based in Frederikshavn, Denmark; focusing on fishing and short sea shipping within Denmark as well as having a business interest and network in Faroe Islands, Greenland and Iceland. The existing office staff of 2 people - managing director Gilli Haraldsen (former owner) and operations manager Niels Maindal - will remain responsible for the daily operation of the new subsidiary.
Rickmers Establishes Korea Subsidiary
Rickmers-Linie, the Hamburg-based specialist for breakbulk, heavylift and project cargo, is expanding its network of own subsidiaries in Asia and will establish a new subsidiary, Rickmers (Korea) Inc, in Seoul effective November 1, 2007. “With its export oriented industry and as a significant location for shipping and related industries, Korea is one of our key markets in the Far East. Thus it was a logical decision to establish our own office in Seoul. The new subsidiary will primarily take over the role of Rickmers-Linie’s agent in Korea and moreover will be the representative office for Rickmers Group in Korea,” explained Gerhard Janssen, General Manager Marketing & Sales at Rickmers-Linie.
MHI Establishes Australian Subsidiary
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has established a wholly owned subsidiary, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Australia Pty. Ltd., which will commence operations on October 1. Headquartered in Melbourne, Victoria, the new subsidiary will have its Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Department in Sydney. Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) today announced that its electronics arm, Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics), has set up a subsidiary, ST Electronics do Brasil Serviços e Soluções em Sistemas Eletronicôs Ltda, in Brazil. ST Electronics holds 99% stake in the new subsidiary, with the remaining 1% stake held by its wholly owned subsidiary, ST Electronics (SatCom & Sensor Systems) Pte. Ltd. Raytheon Anschütz Expands US operations
Raytheon Company announced the launch of its new subsidiary, Raytheon Anschuetz USA LLC, located in San Diego, Calif. According to the company, Raytheon Anschuetz USA LLC aims to reinforce customer care and support for Raytheon Anschütz navigation systems in the United States for commercial ship owners and shipyards as well as government entities, including the Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command, Navy and Army. “In January 2012, Raytheon Anschütz returned to the U.S. navigation systems market with the establishment of a San Diego-based regional sales office. Now, we are taking the next step to becoming America’s new center of navigation excellence,” said Frank Christophersen, president of the new subsidiary.
G&D Launches US Subsidiary
German KVM company Guntermann & Drunck GmbH (G&D) announced it will distribute its equipment from new U.S. subsidiary G&D North America Inc. in Miami, Fla. With the founding of its new subsidiary, G&D said it aims to increase its presence in the North American, South American and Canadian markets as G&D North America’s team will work to further expand the company’s existing partner network internationally. According to G&D, Miami’s geographical location is ideal for reaching both the northern and the southern part of the continent.
New Ferry Line Formed
Atteshlis Shipping clinched a deal with Poseidon Lines Shipping of Liberia to operate a ferry line in the Mediterranean under a new subsidiary, it said. The subsidiary, Poseidon Lines Holdings, will operate the Sea Harmony vessel which transports cargo on the Greece-Cyprus-Israel route. Atteshlis Shipping will pay $3 million for a 51 percent stake of the new concern, with Poseidon Lines the remaining 49 percent, Atteshlis said in a statement to the Cyprus Stock Exchange. The agreement is subject to the approval of the island's central bank since it includes the export of currency. - (Reuters)

Based in Tampa, Florida, this business handles all of TECO Transport's global blue water transportation activities. Blackwater unveiled its plans to create a new subsidiary, Blackwater Maritime Security Solutions. Blackwater Maritime Security Solutions (BMSS), in a strategic partnership with the Global Maritime and Transportation School (GMATS) at the U. S. Crowley To Form New Subsidiary
Crowley Maritime Corp. said that upon the sale of its South American liner services to Hamburg Süd, it will operate its remaining Caribbean and Latin American services under a new name - Crowley Liner Services. The wholly owned subsidiary of Crowley Maritime will be divided into two separate operating units, Crowley Liner Services - Puerto Rico/Caribbean and Crowley Liner Services - Latin America. The company has established a revised target date of November 1 for the sale of its South America liner services to Hamburg Sud who will continue to operate the South America services under the Crowley American Transport brand name.

Alexander & Baldwin, Inc., announced the formation of a new subsidiary, Matson Global Distribution Services, to expand its logistics service menu to include warehousing and distribution, freight forwarding and non-vessel operating common carrier (NVOCC) services.
