Woodhead Appointed Sr V. P., Training & Content, KVH

KVH Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: KVHI), announced today that Mark Woodhead has been named to the newly created position of KVH senior vice president for training and content, effective on the first of January 2017. In this position, Mr. Woodhead will direct KVH’s market-leading maritime crew welfare, safety, and productivity services, which include Videotel maritime training packages – currently in use on more than 12,000 vessels worldwide – and numerous news and entertainment brands, such as NEWSlink – currently used by more than 9,000 vessels globally. Videotel’s Updates BWM Programme

Videotel, a KVH company has revised its ballast water management (BWM) training package to address the requirements of the International Maritime Organization’s newly ratified BWM Convention, a global treaty that is designed to stop the spread of invasive species from ships’ ballast water. Beginning next year, all ships engaged in international trade will need: a ballast water management plan to remove or neutralize harmful aquatic organisms and pathogens; an International Ballast Water Management Certificate; and, an onboard record book to prove compliance. MPA Launches Videotel's Training for Safe Navigation in Singapore Strait

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has released a training programme, produced by Videotel, a KVH company, to encourage safe navigation in the Singapore Strait. KVH's Zika Virus Safety Video for Mariners

KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI), announced today that it is offering Videotel’s new safety and training video about the Zika virus free to all mariners worldwide. The goal of the program is to increase awareness  of the vitally important prevention measures that can keep seafarers and their colleagues and families safe. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Zika virus a public health emergency earlier this year. Given the global nature of the maritime industry, it is imperative that seafarers take precautions to prevent further spread of the disease. Key Issues of Concern to Maritime Industry

KVH Industries, Inc., hosted maritime industry leaders for a frank discussion about cyber security prior to the start of the CMA Shipping 2016 conference in Stamford, Connecticut. During the roundtable, a range of concerns about the current level of vulnerability emerged. Among the key issues identified were complacency by ship operators, lack of training for crew, non-existent contingency plans for dealing with a cyber attack, and the need for a set of best practices for minimizing risks. “We need to bring the same best practices that we expect on shore and in our corporate networks to ships,” said Rick Driscoll, KVH vice president of satellite products and services.

Videotel, Safebridge JV for Onboard ECDIS Certification

Videotel, a provider of e-Learning maritime training solutions and a company of KVH Industries, has joined forces with online maritime training business Safebridge GmbH, which specializes in ECDIS training, to provide shipping companies with the unique ability to certify their seafarers on ECDIS type-specific training while serving onboard. More than 30 ECDIS type-specific training courses will be available, which is the most comprehensive offering in the industry. Videotel’s API Enables Integration with Crew Management Software

Videotel, a global provider of e-Learning maritime training solutions and a company of KVH Industries, Inc.,  has released the Videotel Partner API, an application programming interface that facilitates the exchange of data between Videotel and any of its clients’ crew management software systems. Videotel developed the API in collaboration with software and solutions developer Netvision, whose products include Compas, one of the leading crew management systems for the maritime industry. The Videotel Partner API is designed to be used with any crew management software; there is no additional fee for the service. The Videotel Partner API is designed to allow Videotel and crew management systems, including Compas, to communicate with each other and automatically update and share information.

Videotel Supports CIC For Enclosed Spaces

Videotel, the leading international provider of e-Learning maritime training programs and a company of KVH Industries, Inc., has backed the Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on crew familiarization for enclosed space entry recently launched by the maritime authorities of Tokyo and Paris. Videotel Secures NMA Approval

Videotel’s “Maritime Security Awareness,” “Designated Security Duties,” and “Shipboard Security Officer” training courses have been approved in their entirety by the NMA for meeting the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) codes, and seafarers completing these courses will receive the necessary qualifications and certificates for shipboard duty. The NMA approval enhances Videotel’s reputation with Norwegian ship owners, ship managers, and the offshore sector, which are guided by the Authority on maritime issues.

Videotel Produces 500th Computer-based Training Course

Videotel, the international provider of e-Learning maritime training solutions and a company of KVH Industries, Inc., has received a Golden Reel Award from the Media Communications Association-International (MCA-I) in recognition of a training video that Videotel created for ExxonMobil Marine. Called "Cold Corrosion Insights," the video was produced for ExxonMobil Marine and explores the harmful effects of acid corrosion in ships' engines, which can reduce the lifespan of an engine by up to 90% in some cases.

Videotel for Action over Enclosed Spaces

VideotelTM, the leading international provider of e-Learning maritime training programs and a company of KVH Industries, Inc., has backed calls by the UK-based maritime union Nautilus for the UK Shipping and Ports Minister to lead regulatory reforms to protect seafarers from the dangers of enclosed spaces. The general secretary of Nautilus recently wrote to the minister to point out the high incidence of death when entering enclosed spaces, where mortality occurs more frequently than during any other activity onboard. New Training for Man Overboard Response

Falling overboard is a life-threatening emergency, not only for the person in question but also for those involved in their rescue. Every step in the rescue process has its own associated hazards and in such a fraught and potentially distressing situation a well-structured rescue plan is essential. Since 1 July 2014, the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) has required ships to have ‘plans and procedures for the recovery of persons from the water’ which will minimize the risk to the rescuers as well as to the casualty or casualties.

Ebola Safety Video Launched for Mariners

KVH Industries, Inc. is offering Videotel's new video about Ebola safety free to all mariners worldwide in an effort to increase awareness of the prevention measures that can help keep seafarers safe.
