Jan De Nul Orders Offshore Cable Layer with Record-Breaking Capacity
Offshore installation services company Jan De Nul has ordered an extra-large cable-laying ship with an "unrivaled" cable-carrying capacity from China's CMHI Haimen shipyard.The vessel, to be named Fleeming Jenkin, will have a cable-carrying capacity of 28,000 tons, and will serve the renewable energy and subsea cable industry in installing cables over longer distances and in deeper waters. Boskalis to Install Power Packs on Offshore Energy Branch Vessels
Dutch marine and offshore energy services firm Boskalis said Monday it would convert vessels within its Offshore Energy division into hybrid vessels through the retrofitting of Energy Storage Systems, or ‘power packs’. Boskalis Rethinks Loss-making Transport Operations
Boskalis will terminate loss-making transport activities at its offshore energy division, the Dutch marine and engineering company said on Thursday after posting lower than expected first-half earnings.A resulting one-off charge of 397 million euros ($451.6 million) pushed Boskalis to a net loss of 361.4 million euros, compared with a profit of 75.1 million euros in the first half of 2017. Heijermans Joins Boskalis Management Board
During today's Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders, Bart Heijermans was appointed to the Board of Management of Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. for a term until the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders in 2022.Heijermans will be responsible for the company’s offshore energy division, effective September 1, 2018.Heijermans brings to the board extensive experience in the offshore industry, having recently served as CEO and board member of subsea services provider DeepOcean.
Energy Doldrums Force Boskalis to Cut Fleet, Staff
Dutch offshore engineer Boskalis said it was cutting 650 jobs worldwide and culling 24 vessels in response to what it called drastic changes in the company's outlook caused by low energy and commodity prices. The job cuts, including 150 Dutch employees, would be made over the next two years from a workforce of about 8,000, the company said on Friday. The company will take 10 vessels out of service at its dredging division and 14 at its offshore energy division because poor market conditions were likely to persist.
Mega Maritime: Heavy Lift for FPSOs
When the Dockwise Vanguard was conceived, Dockwise, part of the Boskalis Group, had a vision for a new market - transporting the world’s largest cargoes, including FPSOs (floating production storage and offloading vessels). It hasn’t taken the vessel, the largest heavy transport vessel in the world, long to prove its worth, as well as the feasibility of such a feat. The vessel has currently transported its first ship-shaped FPSO cargo, Bumi Armada’s Armada Intrepid, to South East Asia which also happens to be one of the three largest cargoes ever transported.
Friede Goldman Receives Conversion Project
Friede Goldman Offshore, the offshore energy division of Friede Goldman Halter, Inc., has been awarded a contract from Oceaneering International, for the shipyard work in Oceaneering's conversion of its Marine 7 jackup to a production unit. The unit will operate in the Legendre North and South fields on the Northwest Shelf of Western Australia.
