Coast Guard Probing 350 Reports of Oil Spills in Wake of Hurricane Ida

The U.S. Coast Guard on Monday said it was probing nearly 350 reports of oil spills in and along the U.S. Gulf Coast in the wake of Hurricane Ida.Hurricane Ida's 150 mile per hour (240 kph) winds wreaked havoc on offshore oil production platforms and onshore oil and gas processing plants. About 88% of the region's offshore oil production remains shut and more than 100 platforms unoccupied after the storm made landfall Aug. 29.The Coast Guard has been conducting flyovers off the coast of Louisiana looking for spills.

OSX Brasil Suspends Creditor Payments

A Netherlands-based subsidiary of Brazilian tycoon Eike Batista's bankrupt shipbuilding and shipleasing unit OSX Brasil SA suspended payments to creditors after being granted protection by a Dutch court. According to a securities filing on Thursday, OSX sought protection for its OSX WHP 1&2 Leasing BV unit after an unnamed "alleged creditor" asked a court to order payment in a way that threatened OSX's obligations to other creditors. OSX WHP was created to finance the building of two fixed, offshore oil-production platforms for bankrupt sister oil company Oleo e Gas Participacoes SA.

Wison Begins Building New Fabrication Yard

Wison Offshore & Marine Ltd. (Wison Offshore & Marine) announced today the commencement of the construction of key modularized components for the Petroleos De Venezuela, S.A.(PDVSA) RPLC refinery project at Wison Offshore & Marine’s Zhoushan Fabrication Yard (The Zhoushan Yard). This project marks the first construction project at Wison Offshore & Marine’s Zhoushan yard, and the official operational launch of the first phase of the yard. The yard is located on Xiushan Island in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province and covers an area of 1.5 million square meters with a coastline of 2,300 meters. Construction on the second phase of the yard is ongoing, and is scheduled to be fully complete and operational in 2015.

Boskalis Wins Large Offshore Contracts

Royal Boskalis Westminster NV wins 3 contracts for offshore projects in Northwest Europe totalling about EUR 110 million. Boskalis has signed a contract with partners DONG Energy and Scottish Power Renewables for the partial construction of the "West of Duddon Sands" offshore wind park in the Irish Sea. The work comprises the preparation of the seabed and the transport and placing of 108 wind turbine foundations. The project will be carried out by Boskalis Offshore and SMIT Marine Projects in collaboration with partner Volker Construction International.The combined contract value for Boskalis-SMIT amounts to approximately EUR 70 million. The work will commence in the first quarter of 2013 and be completed mid-2014.

Petrobras Approves Contracts to Build 10 New Units

Petrobras said that it would contract to build 10 offshore oil production platforms in the coming eight years for a newly found pre-salt oil field. The 10 new units, to operate in ultra-deep waters, will tap the pre-salt oil reserves discovered recently off the country's southeastern coast. According to the company, the first two units will be chartered from third parties. Each will have a daily production capacity of 100,000 barrels of crude and 5 million cubic meters of natural gas. The units will be installed between 2013 and 2014.  Source:  ChinaNews
