Robert Johansen has been named Director of the Ports & Marine Western Division at Parsons Brinckerhoff, a global engineering and design firm. Jeffrey Schechtman has been named Deputy Regional Business Manager for the Southeast region of Parsons Brinckerhoff, a global infrastructure strategic consulting, engineering and program/construction management organization. In his new position, Schechtman will work with managers in the nine states that comprise Parsons Brinckerhoff’s Southeast region to enhance relationships with key clients, expand business development opportunities, and invigorate marketing and pursuit efforts. He will work in the firm’s Atlanta office.

William Wachel has been named a Senior Supervising Engineer, Ports and Marine, in the Houston office of Parsons Brinckerhoff, a global infrastructure strategic consulting, engineering, and program/construction management organization. In his new position, Wachel will manage ports and marine projects throughout Texas and the Southeastern United States. Richard Tomer has been named a Regulatory and Permitting Specialist at Parsons Brinckerhoff, a global infrastructure strategic consulting, engineering and program/construction management organization. In his new position, Mr. Tomer will provide technical regulatory services throughout the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut region for resiliency and waterfront projects, with an early focus on post-Superstorm Sandy rebuilding. Mr. Tomer comes to Parsons Brinckerhoff from the U.S.

Omega Morgan, a 22-year-old specialized moving company, has its eyes on the aging bridges in the Pacific Northwest. After successfully employing the jack-and-slide method of efficiently moving bridge spans into place for two high-profile projects, the company sees more opportunities in Oregon and Washington. In January, Omega Morgan moved Portland’s 1,100-foot-long, 3,400-ton Sellwood Bridge across the Willamette River in a single day, in one piece and on an angle, drawing national media and big crowds. The Center for Maritime Policy and Strategy will host an academic workshop, Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at the U.S. This one-day workshop will bring together a diverse group of scholars, practitioners and stakeholders from across the country to discuss how to achieve resilient ports and marine transportation systems in an era of extreme storms, rising seas and the melting Arctic ice sheet. The workshop features two panels that highlight research currently being conducted by postdoctoral fellows at the center.

Thomas Jelenić has been named Senior Ports and Marine Manager in the Los Angeles office of Parsons Brinckerhoff, a global infrastructure strategic consulting, engineering and program/construction management organization. In his new position, Mr. Jelenić is responsible for leading and supporting port environmental planning and design projects as well as helping to expand the firm’s ports practice in California. He comes to Parsons Brinckerhoff after 14 years with the Port of Long Beach, most recently serving as Assistant Director of Environmental Planning.
