IOOC Launches First PIMS
Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC), a subsidiary of the National Iranian Oil Company, has successfully launched its first offshore pipeline integrity management system (PIMS) in the Iranian oil industry.According to IOOC, the system was launched in order to comply with international and national requirements for the standard, safe and continuous operation of the Salman Oilfield’s gas pipelines with a Norwegian company and the Pipeline Technology Company. The project is dubbed as the first of such projects in the Iranian offshore oil industry, said a report in Iran News.A Pipelines Management System (PMS) provides a clear process, with tasks and responsibilities…
Wood Group Kenny Wins 2 Contracts from Petrobras
Wood Group Kenny (WGK) has won two contracts with a total value of over $2 million with Brazilian operator Petrobras. In the first, WGK has begun a conceptual engineering study of two alternatives of pipeline heating systems for the Petrobras pre-salt Lapa field, water-heated pipe-in-pipe (WH-PiP) and electrically trace-heated pipe-in-pipe (ETH-PiP). The project aims to provide Petrobras and its partners, BG and Repsol Sinopec, with the basis to evaluate the technical feasibility of the south west area tieback on the field and determining the most cost-effective technology. The application of active heating pipeline technology would be a first in a pre-salt environment.
Study: Outlook Strong for Offshore Pipe Industry
The European outlook for the offshore pipe industry in 2014 is positive, according to a recent report conducted by Tata Steel, a supplier of innovative deep-water pipe line solutions. The study, conducted by Europe’s second largest steel producer, points to high energy demand from Africa, Asia and BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) nations which will continue to drive offshore developments. The study highlights the growth in deepwater developments in Africa and Europe as signs that the offshore pipe line industry is set to continue its recovery.
Abakan Recieves Award for Subsea Pipeline Technology
Adding to a collection of innovation and technology awards, Abakan Inc. announced that its proprietary CermaClad clad pipe product was awarded the "Subsea Pipeline Technology of the Year" award by the Pipeline Industries Guild. MesoCoat, an Abakan subsidiary that developed the CermaClad technology, received the award at the Pipeline Industries Guild National Dinner in London on March 12. The CermaClad high-speed, large-area clad pipe technology produces a superior metallurgical clad pipe product for the oil and gas industry, where availability of metallurgical clad pipes and the associated lead time have been a major concern. The technology uses a high intensity plasma light source – "mini-sun" – to rapidly fuse anti-corrosion and anti-wear materials to large areas of steel…
Subsea 7 Wins Pipeline Industries Guild Award
Subsea 7, a provider to the offshore energy industry, has won the Pipeline Industries Guild’s (PIG) 2012 Subsea Pipeline Technology Award. The award was made at the PIG National Dinner in London’s Grosvenor House Hotel. The award recognizes Subsea 7’s technology initiative for the installation of Mechanically Lined Pipe (Bubi® pipe) by reel–lay³. Subsea 7’s has been working with the pipe manufacturers BUTTING to optimize the technical and commercial benefits of using Bubi® pipe over corrosion resistant alloys and metallurgically clad pipes currently used by the industry. The technology, independently qualified by DNV, has demonstrated its market potential and been adopted for the first major Pre-Salt project, Guará-Lula NE, in Brazil by Petrobras.
Statoil Honored in Houston
The Tyrihans field was one of five offshore developments to be presented with a Five Star Award at the Deep Offshore Technology (DOT) conference in Houston on Feb. 2. The Statoil-operated oil and gas project in the Norwegian Sea came on stream last July, and has delivered well above its production targets. Ingrid Sølvberg, vice president within marine technology and operations, accepted the award – given for field developments judged to be the best in the world – on behalf of the group.
