World’s Largest Offshore Wind Farm Opens

The world's largest offshore wind farm will open on Thursday off the northwest coast of England when Danish energy group Orsted unveils the Walney Extension project.The wind farm has a capacity of 659 megawatts (MW), enough to power almost 600,000 homes, and overtakes the London Array off England's east coast which has a capacity of 630 MW.Walney Extension is made up of 87 turbines built by Siemens Gamesa and MHI Vestas, and covers 145 square kilometers (55 square miles), which is equivalent to around 20,000 football pitches.The 40 eight-megawatt MHI Vestas turbines being used stand 195 meters

Port Klang Authority Hikes Container Tariffs

Port Klang Authority (PKA) announced that the 2nd phase of the increase in Port Klang’s container tariff which was due to be implemented on 1st September 2018, will be deferred to 1st March 2019.The tariff review was approved in 2015 whereby an increase of 30% was to be carried out in two phases. The increase was gazetted via PKA Scales of Rates, Dues and Charges Bylaws 2015 and was notified to all port users and industry players through Port Klang Authority General Manager’s circular in August 2015.The first phase of 15% increase was implemented on 1st November 2015 while the 2nd phase of another 15% tariff increase was scheduled to take effect on 1st September 2018.

Maersk, Danske and Nordea to shed Ship Finance Stakes

A.P. Moller-Maersk , Danske Bank and Nordea Bank will sell their shareholdings in shipping lender Danish Ship Finance worth 4.25 billion Danish crowns ($638.05 million) to a consortium of Danish investment funds, the company said Wednesday. The company, which distributes loans to shipping companies based on vessel mortgages, will be taken over by Danish pension funds PFA, PKA as well as Nordic equity fund Axcel. The deal values the company at 4.72 billion crowns, the company said. The divestment comes less than a week after shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk said it would split into two units and focus on its container shipping business.

Rotterdam and Singapore Ports' Pact on Research

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA)  and the Port of Rotterdam Authority have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to exchange information on marine services and jointly collaborate on research and development in the areas of service efficiency and optimisation, and new developments in the maritime and port sectors. Under the MoU the two parties will exchange information on marine services, including standards, and regulatory frameworks for bunkering and other marine services, as well as the application of information technology in providing those services. The Research and development side of the agreement covers service efficiency and optimisation, as well as new developments such as LNG bunkering and green technology.

Siemens to Supply Eighty N. Sea Wind Turbines

Siemens contracted by Germany's wpd group to supply & install 80 wind turbines for the Butendiek offshore wind power plant. The agreement also covers a long-term maintenance contract for a period of ten years, the first of its kind for an offshore wind project. Siemens is to provide a new logistics concept that includes a service operation vessel specially developed for deployments to offshore wind facilities. Denmark Receives Power from Anholt Offshore Wind Farm

The first CO2-free power is now being fed into the Danish power grid from Anholt offshore wind farm. On its completion next year, the farm, with its total capacity of 400 MW, will be Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm and will deliver power equivalent to the consumption of 400,000 Danish households. Booz Allen Hamilton Receives $9.9M Contract

Booz Allen Hamilton of Fairfax, Virginia is being awarded a contract for $9.9m. This action provides for Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) Services for the Military Satellite Communications Systems Wing (MILSATCOM), Space and Missile Systems Center, in support of the Global Broadcast Services Program (GBS) and the Joint Terminal Engineering office (JTEO). For JTEO, the contractor shall provide systems engineering, test and evaluation, network engineering, and development oversight of all MILSATCOM terminal systems.
