Norwegian police on Thursday responded to a threat made by telephone against the Nyhamna gas processing plant, one of Europe's largest energy export facilities, and later said the incident had been resolved. The threat came amid heightened concerns about the security of oil and gas infrastructure following suspected sabotage of Russia's Nord Stream gas pipelines to Europe, though plant operator Gassco and offshore producers Shell and Equinor said output had not been interrupted.

Japan will release more than 1 million tonnes of contaminated water from the destroyed Fukushima nuclear station into the sea, the government said on Tuesday, a move opposed by neighbors including China, which called it "extremely irresponsible."The first release of water will take place in about two years, giving plant operator Tokyo Electric Power time to begin filtering the water to remove harmful isotopes, build infrastructure and acquire regulatory approval.Japan has argued…

A Norwegian navy frigate that collided with an oil tanker last week was almost completely submerged on Tuesday despite efforts to salvage the sinking vessel, pictures taken by the Norwegian Coastal Administration showed.The ship's plight off the Norwegian coast is, however, not disrupting the nearby Sture crude oil export terminal. "We are in normal operations," said a spokeswoman for the plant's operator, Equinor.The Norwegian military has been working since Thursday to salvage the ship by tethering it with several cables to the shore.

Terex Port Solutions (TPS) achieves another success in South America. The Argentinian power plant operator AES Argentina Generacion S.A. (AES) has ordered a Terex Gottwald Model 2 portal harbour crane in the G HSK 2224 variant from TPS. From the end of 2016, AES will use the cargo handling machine in its 1,540 MW power plant in San Nicolás de los Arroyos to unload coal imported from Colombia and South Africa. Power and automation technology group ABB announced study results show return on investment from turbocharger upgrades. The increased revenue resulting from higher engine output of three engines in a power plant accumulated to approximately $537,000 per year, and in addition, fuel savings of $470,000 per year were realized. Forrester Consulting conducted a study examining the return on investment (ROI) from upgrading ABB turbochargers for a major power plant operator in the Caribbean. Data gathered and analyzed from the three engines before and after the upgrade indicated a Net Present Value of $1.4 million three years, with an annual value of $824,000 and a payback time of 11 months.

When Cheniere Energy opened a new liquefied natural gas import terminal in Louisiana in 2008, a U.S. shale drilling boom quickly made it obsolete. Seven years on, with the Houston-based firm about to open a landmark export plant on the same site, the timing, again, is far from ideal. A Reuters analysis shows that a slump in oil prices and global abundance of LNG threaten to undercut the economics of U.S. gas exports, crimp shippers' profits and possibly reduce demand for facilities such as Cheniere's $12 billion Sabine Pass plant, the first to send U.S. shale gas worldwide. New supply across the globe, faltering demand and a steep drop in oil-linked LNG prices will make short-term, or spot, deliveries of U.S.

Siemens will deliver the key components for a power station that is going to supply the future Yamal LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) production plant in Northern Russia with electricity and heat. The Siemens scope of supply comprises the design, manufacture, factory testing, delivery, installation and commissioning of eight SGT-800 industrial gas turbines as well as nine step-up transformers. Four of these turbines will additionally be equipped with waste heat recovery units. The power plant will have an electrical output of 376 megawatts (MWe). The order has been placed by the Russian engineering company Technopromexport (TPE), which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rostec State Corporation.
