German propulsion manufacturer SCHOTTEL said it has been awarded a contract to supply UZMAR Shipyard with rudder propellers featuring the patented hybrid system SYDRIVE-M. The Turkish shipyard is currently building a 30.25-meter-long and 11.75-meter-wide RAmparts 3000 series tugboat for the Port of Aarhus, Denmark’s largest container port.The new tugboat, which is scheduled for delivery in summer 2021, will ensure greener operations and higher efficiency when it goes into operation at the Port of Aarhus.

The Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) has launched a pilot project on digital certificates for seafarers.MUMBAI MÆRSK heads out from the Port of Aarhus for destinations in Europe, Africa and Asia with crew certificates that are entirely digital instead of traditional paper certificates yesterday (May 29). This is simpler, faster and safer for seafarers, shipping companies and authorities.During the voyage, the merchant ship will call into port in Germany, Morocco, Singapore, China and South Korea, where it will collect data and knowledge about the use of digital certificates for seafarers. Cargo shipments through the St. Lawrence Seaway continue to be buoyed by demand for iron ore and steel slabs with an overall increase of 16.6% year-to-date compared to the same period last year. The St. Lawrence Seaway reported that marine vessels carried 14.8 million tonnes of cargo from March 25 to July 31 — an increase of over 2 million tonnes compared to the 12.7 million tonnes handled during the same period last year. Total shipments during the month of July were down 4.8% compared to the same period in 2009 due to lower coal and grain traffic.
