Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD) on Thursday announced it has struck a deal with Rolls-Royce to acquire its naval propulsors and handling business. ABB to Equip Lindblad' New Icegoing Vessel
Swiss-Swedish tech giant ABB is to supply power, automation, propulsion and digital systems for the second icegoing cruise ship to be built for Lindblad Expeditions by Ulstein Verft shipyard.Destined to take exploration cruise guests sustainably and safely on voyages deep into remote polar regions, the Lindblad Expeditions Holdings, Inc. vessel will be built by the Norwegian yard Ulstein Verft to an Ulstein Design & Solutions design as a sister ship to National Geographic Endurance, whose construction is underway.As before, the latest ship will have capacity for 126 passengers in 69 luxury guest cabins. ABB Wins Total Solution For Polar Newbuild
ABB will deliver a comprehensive scope of power, automation, propulsion and digital solutions for the new Lindblad Expeditions Holdings, Inc. vessel that will take passengers on exploration cruises in remote polar areas. Designed with a focus on safety, environmental sustainability and comfort, this ice-going vessel will be equipped with ABB’s power and automation solutions, as well as two Azipod DO propulsion units. ABB is the only supplier of azimuthing electric podded propulsor systems of sufficiently high ice-going class able to meet the owner’s requirements.
BAE Systems Bags USN Award for Submarine Propulsors
BAE Systems has received a $72 million contract from the U.S. Navy to produce and deliver propulsor systems for Block IV Virginia-class (SSN 774) submarines. The award continues the company’s current position as the premier provider of propulsors to the U.S. undersea fleet. “The propulsor contributes significantly to the overall stealth and effectiveness of a submarine,” said Joe Sentfle, vice president and general manager of Weapon Systems at BAE Systems. The contract’s value could eventually amount to $162.9 million if all options are exercised. The company has delivered more than 20 propulsors to the Navy for both Seawolf-class (SSN 21) and Virginia-class submarines. The Virginia-class attack submarines represent a shift in undersea warfare.
Navy Contracts for BAE, International Marine
US Department of Defense, Navy, contracts awarded for 'Virginia-class' submarine propulsor sytem, and for support of 'USS John C. Stennis' (CVN 74) docking materials. BAE Systems U.S. Combat Systems, Minneapolis, Minn., is being awarded a $15,350,000 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-09-C-4137) for manufacture and delivery of propulsor systems in support of the Virginia-class submarine requirements. Work will be performed in Louisville, Ky., and is expected to be completed by May 2015. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington D.C., is the contracting activity.
