Diana Containerships to Sell Post-Panamax Vessel
Ship owner Diana Containerships Inc. announced it has signed, through a separate wholly-owned subsidiary, a Memorandum of Agreement to sell to an unaffiliated third party the 2009-built vessel Hamburg, with delivery to the buyer latest by July 31, 2018, for a sale price of $21 million before commissions.Net proceeds from the sale of the vessel are expected to be used by the company to prepay part of the existing indebtedness.Upon completion of the sale, Diana Containerships Inc.’s fleet will consist of five container vessels, including three Post-Panamax and two Panamax ships.
River Cleanup Towboat Modifications Completed
Environmental nonprofit organization Living Lands & Waters (LL&W) recently had its 38’ towboat, the M/V River Cleanup, modified and shortened to 26’.River Cleanup is part of the LL&W fleet that works to protect, preserve and restore the natural environment of the Unite States’ major rivers and their watershed. Since 1998, the group has removed more than 9.8 million pounds of debris from U.S. waterways.When LL&W decided it wanted to have the towboat shortened in 2017, it contracted The Shearer Group, Inc.

U.S.-based ballast water treatment system (BWTS) manufacturer Ecochlor, Inc. said it has been awarded a contract to retrofit 36 vessels, including Suezmaxes, Aframaxes, VLCCs, Minicapes and Capes for Angelicoussis Shipping Group Limited (ASGL). Master Marine Delivers Towboat to Waterfront Services
Alabama shipbuilder Master Marine has delivered Sam P. Hise, the third towboat in a series of four newbuilds for Illinois-based inland operator Waterfront Services Co.The 67’ x 28’ boat is set up with 10,400 gallons of fuel, 4,359 gallons of potable water and 9,500 gallons of ballast water along with providing a maximum 7’ 9” working draft.Each vessel will be powered by a pair of Laborde Products, Inc. VT Halter Marine Delivers Second Platform Supply Vessel
VT Halter Marine, Inc., a company of VT Systems, Inc. (VT Systems), announced delivery of the second Platform Supply Vessel (PSV) for L&M Botruc Rental Inc. Construction of the vessel began in the second quarter of 2008. Like her sister ship, the completed PSV will carry supplies, deck cargo, and drilling fluids used to support offshore energy exploration and production. The vessel measures 230 ft in length, 56 ft in breadth, and 18 ft in depth. PSVs are highly automated and contain sophisticated control and monitoring systems. Each vessel is equipped with a DP-2 (Dynamic Position with redundancy) that provides precise maneuvering capability using a combination of thrusters equipped with controllable pitch propellers.

Fugro Gulf's contracted ship management company, New Offshore Inc., Morgan City, La., will use the modules and manage vessel operational activities on behalf of Fugro Gulf Inc. Fugro Gulf Inc. has contracted for the Maintenance & Repair, Purchasing & Inventory Control, Replication Manager & Financial Reporting, ISM/STCW Compliance and Document Management modules of ABS NS SafeNet. Special topics include an Ultra-deep track discussing current and prospective robotic technologies, plus a panel of scientists to consider research questions. ST Engineering Injects $66m into VT Systems
Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) today announced that it has injected US$66m (approximately S$89m) into the capital of its US Headquarters, Vision Technologies Systems, Inc. (VT Systems), for the repayment of bank loans. This brings ST Engineering’s total investment in VT Systems to US$343.96m (approximately S$464m). Hawaiian Companies Win Navy Contract
C&S Services Inc., Waipahu, Hawaii; Marisco, Ltd., Kapolei, Hawaii; Pacific Shipyard International, LLC, Honolulu, Hawaii; Propulsion Controls Engineering Hawaii, Aiea, Hawaii; Q.E.D. Systems Inc., Virginia Beach, Va., are each being awarded a potential maximum of $15 million for indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contracts to provide repair, maintenance, and alteration to U.S. Government waterborne vessels and surface ship, visiting or homeported in the Hawaiian Islands, and procure long lead time material in support of these activities. Work will be performed in Honolulu, Hawaii, and is expected to be completed by January 2011. Contract funds in the amount of $10,000 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
UltraStrip Signs Agreement with BAE Systems
UltraStrip Systems, Inc. announced the signing of a five year exclusive agreement with BAE Systems ship yard subsidiaries in San Francisco and San Diego to provide its patented robotic automated waterjetting technology equipment and services. FAST Program Achieves Successful Critical Design Review
Atlas Elektronik UK, with its Atlas-QED consortium partners ITT Corporation (formerly EDO Corporation) and QinetiQ, has achieved a successful Critical Design Review of a mine counter measures (MCM) flexible agile sweeping technology (FAST) technology readiness demonstrator (TRD), in line with the main program schedule. The demonstrator, which is being supplied under contract, will ultimately enable the MoD to put a combined influence sweep (CIS) replacement into service using FAST Technology. This latest milestone follows an Interim Design Review in September 2007. With the build phase well underway, the program remains on track to achieve the target of readiness for formal trials later this year.

Jerry DeMuro, formerly executive vice-president and corporate vice president of the Information Systems and Technology group at General Dynamics, has been appointed as president and CEO of BAE Systems, Inc., effective February 1, 2014 to succeed Linda P. Hudson, who had announced last year her intention to retire from the company in 2014. DeMuro will be appointed as an executive director of BAE Systems plc and will serve on BAE Systems’ Executive Committee, as well as on the board of BAE Systems, Inc.

Northrop Grumman to Compete for USCG NAIS
Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) announced at the U.S. Coast Guard Innovation Expo in New Orleans its intent to lead a team that will compete to design, integrate, install and test the Coast Guard's Nationwide Automatic Identification System (NAIS). NAIS will be a two-way maritime digital communication system, which will continually transmit and receive voiceless exchange of vessel data, including vessel identity, position, speed, course, destination and other data of critical interest for navigation safety, marine mobility and maritime security. QinetiQ GRC naval architects in combination with their Paramarine software are working with QED Naval Ltd in the development of a marine platform (Subhub) that is being designed to transport, install, anchor and maintain wave and tidal turbines through life. This will bring major cost and time advantages to tidal turbine field installations on the sea bed.
