The FPSO Cidade de Ilhabela, the floating oil and gas production, storage and offloading vessel scheduled to operate in the Sapinhoá field, Santos Basin, has arrived at the Brasa shipyard in Niterói (RJ) to finish lifting and integrating thirteen modules into its processing plant. The new platform was converted from an oil tanker at the CXG shipyard in China. The modules will be integrated at the Brasa shipyard in a partnership with companies SBM Offshore and the Synergy Group. The shipyard is also responsible for building thirteen of the eighteen modules for the FSPO’s processing plant.

There has been a significant increase in shipyard construction in Brazil in yards large and small alike. Maritime Reporter’s Contributing Editor in Brazil visited Brasa Shipyard in Rio de Janeiro and spoke to Philippe Levy, Country Manager for SBM Offshore, who is one of the yard directors. Brasa Shipyard is building FPSO deck modules for integration onto FPSO hulls. “Brasa shipyard was created by Synergy and SBM in order to simplify FPSO module integration for FPSOs leased to Petrobras for pre-salt oil production,” said Philippe Levy, Country Manager for SBM. Since Brasa shipyard is located in the city of Niterói, across Guanabara Bay from the city of Rio de Janeiro, SNV managed to resolve three major bottlenecks at the same location.

SBM Offshore has received a Letter of Intent (LOI) for the 20-year charter & operation of two FPSOs from BM-S-11 subsidiary Tupi BV. The FPSOs will be deployed at the Lula field in the pre-salt province offshore Brazil. BM-S-11 block is under concession to a consortium comprised of PETROBRAS (65%), BG E&P Brasil Ltda. (25%), and Petrogal Brasil S.A.(10%). The FPSOs will be owned and operated by a Joint Venture company owned by SBM Offshore with other partners including Queiroz Galvão Óleo e Gás S.A.(QGOG). SBM Offshore will be in charge of the construction of the two FPSOs with planned delivery expected respectively by end 2015 and early 2016.

Petrobras announce negotiations are under way to contract 2 Floating Production & Storage Units (FPSO's) for connection to wells in the Santos Basin. Petrobras and its partners in Block BM-S-11, BG E&P Brasil and Petrogal Brasil, announce negotiations are under way for the contracting with consortium QGOG/SBM (Queiroz Galvão Óleo e Gás S.A./ SBM Offshore) of two FPSOs for production development at Lula Alto and Lula Central, in Lula Field, in the pre-salt cluster of Santos Basin. Each FPSO will be connected to 18 wells, 10 of which are production wells and 8 injectors. Production is expected to begin in January 2016 at Lula Alto and in March 2016 at Lula Central. Each FPSO will have a processing capacity of 150,000 bpd of oil and 6,000,000 m3/day of natural gas.

QGOG Constellation S.A. exercise a Samsung Heavy Indurstries contract option for an advanced capability DP3 drillship. This will be the third drillship ordered from SHI in South Korea and is scheduled to be delivered in December 2014. The unit will have advanced capabilities to meet the requirements of ultra-deepwater drilling in water depths of up to 12,000 feet and a total vertical drilling depth of 40,000 feet, based on the proprietary Samsung 12000 hull. This drillship will have the latest dynamic positioning capabilities and a complete dual activity hoisting system with enhanced client and third-party facilities. It maximizes the station-keeping capability during drilling operations while using a larger engine & thruster capacity and fully redundant system.

QGOG Constellation announces the arrival in Brazil waters of the ultra-deepwater drillship, 'Amaralina Star'. 'Amaralina Star' is to be operated by its subsidiary, Queiroz Galvão Óleo e Gás (QGOG). The unit was built to operate in ultra-deepwaters to water depths of up to 10,000 feet and to drill wells depths of up to 40,000 feet. It will be able to operate in the Brazilian pre-salt area. The Amaralina Star was built by the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard, in South Korea. The shipyard is also currently building the Laguna Star drillship, which belongs to QGOG Constellation and will be operated by QGOG. The two units have been chartered to Petrobras under a six-year contract, with options to renew for six additional years. Drilling services will be provided by QGOG.

Queiroz Galvão Óleo e Gás (QGOG) partners with Sete Brasil in charter agreements for 3 drilling rigs. QGOG, the largest Brazilian provider of drilling and production services, announce that, in partnership with Sete Brasil, they have signed a charter and services agreement for three semi-submersible ultra-deep water drilling rigs, named Urca, Bracuhy and Mangaratiba. QGOG will operate the rigs and QGOG Constellation, through one of its subsidiaries, holds a 15% equity stake in each rig. The drilling rigs will be built at the BrasFels shipyard in Angra dos Reis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with local content above 55%. They are expected to begin operating in 2016, 2018 and 2019, respectively and are part of the package of 21 drilling rigs negotiated between Sete Brasil and Petrobras.

Brazil's Queiroz Galvão Óleo e Gás S.A. QGOG announces the naming ceremony in South Korea of the Amaralina Star and the Laguna Star, the newest dynamically positioned ultra-deepwater drillships to be operated by the company. The Amaralina Star and the Laguna Star are capable of drilling in water depths of up to 10,000 feet and drilling to a total well depth of 40,000 feet. They are designed to operate in ultra-deepwater environments, particularly in the pre-salt area. The two new drillships will be delivered by Samsung Heavy Industries of South Korea in June and September, respectively, and are expected to commence operations in Brazil in October and December. The drilling units have been leased to Petrobras for a six-year period with an option to renew for an additional six years.

Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd (Keppel O&M), through its subsidiary Fernvale Pte. Ltd., has secured a contract worth approximately $809m from Urca Drilling B.V., a subsidiary of Sete Brasil Participações S.A. (Sete Brasil), for the design and construction of a semisubmersible (semi) drilling rig based on Keppel's proprietary DSSTM 38E design. The DSSTM 38E is an enhancement of Keppel's proven fifth generation deepwater solution, the DSSTM 38. With improved capability and operability, it is designed to meet the stringent requirements of the deepwater "Golden Triangle" region, comprising Brazil, Africa and the Gulf of Mexico. Scheduled for delivery in 4Q 2015, the rig is intended to support the exploration of Brazil's estimated 50 billion barrels of deep-sea oil and gas reserves1.

The DSSTM 38 ultra deepwater semisubmersible rig was delivered a record four months ahead of schedule. Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS) has delivered Alpha Star, the second of two DSSTM 38 semisubmersible rigs, to Brazil's Queiroz Galvão Óleo e Gás (QGOG) four months ahead of schedule and with zero lost time incidents. This continues Keppel FELS track record of delivering its rigs on time or ahead of schedule. Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd (Keppel O&M), through its subsidiary Keppel FELS Brasil, has secured two contracts totalling R$500 million (approx. S$381.4 million) - one from Single Buoy Moorings Inc. (SBM), and another from the joint venture company MODEC and Toyo Offshore Production Systems (MTOPS). Mr Chow Yew Yuen, President (The Americas) of Keppel O&M, said, "Keppel has worked closely with various international drillers and fleet owners operating in Brazil for some 30 years. Today, in replicating Keppel O&M's proven systems and practices in Brazil, we are able to offer a full range of offshore solutions in construction, conversion, repair and modification, as well as the fabrication and integration of production topsides, among others.

Keppel FELS Ltd (Keppel FELS) has delivered two rigs safely, ahead of schedule and within budget to owners. The KFELS B Class jackup rig, Greatdrill Chitra, was delivered to India’s Greatship Global Energy Services Pte Ltd (Greatship) 12 days ahead of schedule, earning Keppel FELS a bonus of S$300,000. Keppel FELS also delivered Gold Star, the world’s first DSS 38 deepwater semisubmersible drilling rig, to Brazilian operator, Queiroz Galvão Óleo e Gás (QGOG), six days early. Both rigs are well on-track for their maiden deployments.

Keppel FELS Limited is on track to deliver Gold Star, the first of two DSS 38 deepwater rigs to Brazilian operator, Queiroz Galvão Óleo e Gás (QGOG) later this year. Progressing on time and within budget, Gold Star will be the first DSS 38 rig to enter the market and support Petrobras's exploration and production activities. Gold Star was named today by Lady Sponsor, Mrs Fiona Steane, spouse of Mr Christopher Steane, Global Head for Structured Finance of the rig’s financiers, ING Bank.
