Built by Swift Ships of Morgan City Louisiana in 1978, the Guardacostas Costa Rica patrol boat Punta Burica has recently been repowered. After three decades of work, the boat, like others in her class remains a valuable asset to the coast guard. The force owns several vessels of this class. In the first of what could become an ongoing project, the Punta Burica has been repowered with a pair of new Cummins QSK19-M engines replacing a pair of MTUs. These IMO and EPA tier 2 compliant engines are equipped with modular common rail fuel systems.

The 61 by 14-meter Nautika Resolute is designated Offshore Utility Vessel and was built to a design by Wartsila Ship Design of Singapore. The vessel has a design speed of 12 knots but achieved 13.5 knots during sea trials. The positive hull design is driven through the water by a pair of IMO2 and EPA2 compliant Cummins QSK60M engines with modular common rail fuel systems.

The crew boats were already getting larger with vessels up to 183 by 35 ft being the largest built for the Gulf of Mexico at that time. The larger boats demanded more power with the shift from six-cylinder 700-HP KTA19 engines to the larger 12-cylinder 1350 hp KTA38-M2. In the spring of 2009 C&G Boatworks in Mobile launched the crewboat Gulf Princess for Graham Gulf. At 185 by34 ft the size had not grown so much but the level of sophistication had.
