Dubai World Launches Rotterdam Terminal
DP World, together with joint-venture partners APL, HMM, MOL and CMA-CGM, has officially opened the Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) terminal, providing the global supply chain with the most innovative and automated container terminal in the world. The RWG terminal s able to handle the largest container vessels afloat in the most efficient and reliable way due to its innovative character, reports Gulf News. ITF Repeats Call for Rotterdam Dialogue as Dockers Protest
The ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) called for all-party talks on the future of the port of Rotterdam, as dockers refused to unload a ship loaded at the new Rotterdam Gateway (RWG) terminal. RWG, unlike other companies at the port, refuses to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement with port workers, who are represented by the FNV Havens union. On Sunday the vessel Alsvin loaded containers at RWG, in what was believed to be a test operation. It then moved to the ECT terminal in Rotterdam to discharge them. Dockers refused to unload them.
Project to Build a New Container Terminal
The European Union will co-finance to the tune of €5 million from the TEN-T Program a project to build a state-of-the-art multimodal container terminal at the Port of Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The future Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) terminal will aim to have the highest modal shift ratio for a container terminal in Europe. The project, which was selected for funding under the 2011 TEN-T Annual Call, involves the construction of the new Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) terminal at the Port of Rotterdam.
Cavotec Wins Netherlands, Malaysia, Terminal Equipment Contracts
Cavotec wins two large orders for electrical power and spreader cable reels for ship-to-shore (STS) container cranes. These orders follow a recent announcement that the Group is to supply similar equipment to the Port of Colombo in Sri Lanka. The first of the two new orders is from ZPMC, the world’s largest port equipment manufacturer, for power and spreader reels for 14 STS cranes for the Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) terminal in The Netherlands. RWG is a major port development that will offer a 1,150-metre deep-sea quay, and annual handling capacity of some 2.35 million TEUs. The terminal is scheduled to enter service in the second half of 2014.
