Solstad Reups, Expands Deal with Marlink

Norwegian offshore services and supply vessel company Solstad Offshore has renewed its connectivity contract with Marlink, committing 65 offshore vessels to Sealink, Marlink’s high-throughput Ku-band VSAT service. Marlink has re-established its commitment to Hapag-Lloyd Cruises to provide its Sealink services on the fleet of four cruise vessels, plus two new cruise ships which are due to enter operational service in 2019. Marlink Introduces Telemedicine Service

Marlink has launched XChange Telemed, a new telemedicine service designed to improve the health and safety of crew and passengers at sea, while meeting new ILO/MLC and IMO/STCW labor regulations for health and medical treatment on board. XChange Telemed provides a cost-effective way for shipping companies to manage both regular and emergency medical consultations for the welfare of crew and passengers, thereby supporting the medical health of seafarers and reducing the risk of spiraling costs incurred due to medical emergencies on board.

Marlink Enhances Efficiency with C-Band on iDirect

New technology platform options for Marlink C-band users. Marlink is expanding its portfolio with the introduction of new C-band services on the iDirect platform, which will enhance network efficiency and open up new options for customers using SealinkTM global C-band coverage for business critical applications. The services will be among the first in the industry to utilise DVB-S2 with Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) technology on regional, multi-regional and global maritime C-band. The implementation of a new state-of-the-art platform for Sealink global C-band coverage has been made possible following the recent upgrade of Marlink’s global VSAT network with the integration of iDirect’s Evolution® X5 Satellite Router and latest operating software release.

Solstad Shipping Renews with Marlink

Marlink, maritime satellite communications integrator, has signed a 60-month agreement to provide the Sealink Maritime VSAT solution to the Norwegian Offshore company Solstad Shipping. The Solstad fleet of 23 vessels will use Sealink Maritime VSAT and other services from the Marlink portfolio. BP Selects Telenor for Global Communications

Telenor Satellite Services signed a three-year communications agreement with British Petroleum (BP) for global broadband services over satellite. The two-part agreement, including Telenor land-based and Sealink at-sea broadband communications services, is one of the largest of its kind in terms of numbers of sites, vessels and systems included. The contract establishes the terms and conditions for upgrading the communications systems of ships and production facilities, as determined by BP, and has the potential of providing cost-efficient and highly reliable very small aperture terminal (VSAT) equipment and services to BP's entire fleet, which will surpass 80 deep sea vessels by the end of 2006, and several offshore rigs and land-based production facilities.
