The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, on Monday held a christening ceremony for the Derrickboat Kolber. This new derrickboat is 160 feet long, has a beam of 60 feet and a depth of 12 feet. The large crane is a SeaTrax series 60 Model S9302. Its design and construction were contracted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Marine Design Center. The provider of  comprehensive services to oil and maritime companies,  Chet Morrison Contractors (Morrison) has acquired two pipelay/construction barges and a saturation diving system from an undisclosed seller in a move to double the size of its pipelay barge fleet.Louisiana based energy services company said in a press release that the first asset it acquired is LB Super Chief, a 265 ft x 72 ft ABS-classed pipelay barge with accommodations for 93 personnel. It is outfitted with a 100 KIP pipe tensioner, is U.S. flagged and provides extended capabilities for pipe size and water depth lay and recovery.It also acquired DLB Subsea Vision, a 415 ft x 100 ft ABS-classed pipelay and construction barge with accommodations for up to 140 personnel.

Harris Pye Engineering Group completed repair works during the two-stage multi-million dollar Diamond Offshore demobilization project for its semi-sub rig Ocean Endeavor from the Black Sea, which completed its contract in January 2016. The initial phase of the repair work, which started in December 2015, while the rig was offshore Constanta, Romania involved cleaning of mud, brine, base oil and skimmer tanks. This $57.5 million acquisition includes 29 actively marketed liftboats ranging from class 105 to class 229, 10 inactive liftboats and additional related assets. Powers and Nesser, All Coast managers and co-chief executive officers, each have more than 40 years of experience in the oil and gas, engineering and maritime industries.

Next year, developers hope to start building offshore wind turbines in the U.S., which is already a leader in on-land wind generation. As turbines spin off the coast in a dozen other countries, particularly the UK, Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany, global offshore wind capacity has expanded nearly six-fold since 2006. Most of these installations are in shallow water though winds are stronger out further. If the U.S. is to have offshore turbines, many residents want them distant enough so they can’t be seen or heard.

In just 90 days, the Harris Pye Group successfully completed the survey and upgrade of Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc’s (DODI) dynamically positioned drillship, the Ocean Clipper. All work was completed within schedule. Totalling 247,235 man hours and utilising a 600-plus workforce, the contract was one of the largest offshore oil and gas projects for the South Wales headquartered company. Despite the time-critical schedule, extraordinarily high man hours and large workforce, safety standards were superb and there were no serious accidents or injuries to any personnel.

To Domke, the Dixie Legacy is personal, the culmination of a career built sailing onboard these unique vessels with the last four years spent shoreside, overseeing the construction activities at Semco Shipyard for Power Offshore Service of Belle Chasse, La. Semco recently completed a 250-ft. (76.2 m) leg lift boat for Power Offshore Service, the first in a series of lift boats under construction for the company. Semco Shipyard recently completed the M/V Dixie Legacy, a 250-ft. leg liftboat for Power Offshore Service, the first in a series of liftboats under construction for Power Offshore Service of Belle Chasse, La. The vessel will be used as a support platform from which various oil and gas industry activities can be performed, including activities such as coiled tubing, hydraulic snubbing, nitrogen stimulation, drilling, plug and abandonment, construction, facility installation or removal and diving. Dixie Legacy, the largest liftboat in the world, features a number of technical innovations both evident and unseen, but its greatest assets are immediately evident upon first laying eyes on the boat: its cranes, its deck area and its legs.

The Marine Design Center (MDC) of the USACE intends to acquire four new inland river-style barges to serve the Pittsburgh District, in support of the Maintenance and Repair Mission on the Inland Rivers System. The first barge shall be 190 x 54 x 12.5 ft., and will be used as a floating platform for a king-post mounted Seatrax crane, which will be furnished to the successful bidder as Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) after contract award. The three remaining flat deck barges shall be 110 x 26 x 7 ft. All four vessels shall be of all-welded steel construction, and shall be designed, built and classed to ABS rules for Steel Vessels on Rivers and Intracoastal Waterways. The bid package became available in July, and bid opening is planned for early August, 1999.
