Semtech, Wilhelmsen, TTI Team-up for Maritime IoT

Semtech, Wilhelmsen and The Things Industries (TTI) have formed a partnership to use Semtech’s LoRa devices to help deliver what they describe as cost-effective, robust and proven IoT solutions to the maritime shipping industry.Wilhelmsen is a global maritime industry group founded in 1861. Semtech Corporation is a  supplier of high performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors and advanced algorithms.Wilhelmsen has selected Semtech’s LoRa devices as the foundation for its new global 2.4GHz maritime IoT network to deliver an ecosystem of cost-effective, robust and proven IoT solutions for its diverse global customer base at “land and sea.”The global maritime shipping industry is expected to register a CAGR of 16.82% during the forecast period 2019-2024.

Navios Sells Ship Management Division

The Greek seaborne shipping and logistics company Navios Maritime Holdings sold its ship management division and certain general partnership interests to N Shipmanagement Acquisition Corp. OSM Selects Tero Marine’s TM Master

The OSM Maritime Group has chosen TM Master as the company’s preferred planned maintenance system. Tero Marine is now in the phase of implementing TM Master on 24 container vessels under the technical management of OSM. OSM has approximately 10,000 employees and 500 vessels included in its worldwide operations. New Maritime College Planned for India

One of India’s leading maritime businesses has unveiled plans for a new $10 million maritime training college in the Patna district of Bihar State in India. Capt. BV Completes first Energy Management Systems Audit

Bureau Veritas has completed the first certification audit of any shipping company in the world  to the new standard ISO 50001- 2011 - Energy Management Systems. Stena’s ship management division,  Northern Marine Management Ltd including  Northern Marine Management (USA) LLC,  has achieved certification to BS ISO 50001, which ensures systematic monitoring and control of energy usage, helping to optimise efficiency, reduce fuel consumption, reduce the company’s environmental footprint and provide a cost saving for the vessels owners.

Giorgi – New InterManager Pres

InterManager, the international trade association for in‐house and third party ship managers, has appointed Roberto Giorgi as its new President with immediate effect. Mr Giorgi, who was elected unopposed at the Nov. 17 InterManager AGM in Singapore, succeeds Ole Stene, Managing Director of Aboitiz Jebsen Bulk Transport Corporation, who has completed his two‐year appointment in the role. The appointment of Mr Giorgi is a significant and positive move in the growth of InterManager.

Videotel Launches Safety Officer Training Package

Videotel Marine International has launched a CD-ROM-based training package aimed at improving safety on board ships. The Safety Officer Training package, which has been produced in association with ship management company, V.Ships and is accredited by the Nautical Institute, is specifically designed for maritime officers who have to carry out the onboard role of safety officer. "Safety Officer Training enhances the safety culture on board ship," says Len Holder, chairman of Videotel. Safety Officer Training is an interactive training program, which ensures that the onboard safety officer is trained within the current legislative framework. self-study. Crescent takes delivery of new design ships

U.K. shipping and transport group Crescent PLC has added two 2,670 dwt bulk carriers to the fleet of ships operated by Crescent Shipping, the group's dry cargo shipping division. "The Crescent Seine and the Crescent Rhine are of a brand new design and are exceptionally flexible ships. Both have low air draft designs, allowing them to trade on combined river-sea routes. Fully loaded with 134,800 cu ft of grain, for instance, they will still only have a draft of 4.05 m and an air draft of 5.2 m. Moreover, both are fully fitted to carry 84 teu boxes," says Jim Stewart, managing director of Crescent Shipping. The Crescent group of companies comprises four distinct divisions operating throughout Europe.

Shell LNG Fleet Earns 'Green Passport'

Shell International Trading and Shipping Company (Shell) has obtained Green Passports for all 25 of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers in its managed fleet. The Green Passports were awarded by Lloyd’s Register, following the necessary surveys and audits and a review of the relevant documentation. Shell and Lloyd’s Register have led the way in the application and adoption of the Green Passport – Shell’s LNG carrier Granatina was the world’s first vessel to be awarded this recognition. The Green Passport is a document that contains an inventory of all the materials onboard a ship that require careful handling or special awareness. The record accompanies the ship throughout its operational life and is updated as necessary.

Hext to Lead V. Ships Marine Services Division

As part of a Group re-organisation, V.Ships, the world's largest provider of ship management and related marine services, has appointed Richard Hext as Chief Executive Officer of the Groups' Marine Services Division. The move follows a restructuring of the Group into two operating divisions; Ship Management and Marine Services. The newly formed Marine Services Division will oversee all activities of the Group other than ship management, including commercial management, ship agency, consulting, travel, insurance, IT and various other support activities. Roberto Giorgi continues to head up the Ship Management Division, overseeing all cargo and leisure ship management activities within the group. Mr. Hext joins V.Ships from LevelSeas, where he was Chief Executive.

Seatruck supports Mersey shiprepair

Heysham-based Seatruck Ferries has drydocked its freight ferry MV Moondance with newly formed North Western Ship Repairers, using Birkenhead's Bidston dock. The dock is not far from the Camell Lairds facility, and North Western is led by John Syvret (ex-MD of Camell Lairds. Seatruck is the first company to use North West for a full drydocking. Kevin Hobbs MD of Seatruck, says, "We are delighted that North Western has stepped in to offer the quality service that we require. Merseyside has once again proved itself as a center of excellence for ship repair and conversion. Seatruck welcomes the new facility that is well placed to provide for its needs on their Irish Sea route.
