OOCL Bags 2018 Singapore Environmental Achievement Award

Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has received the 2018 Singapore Environmental Achievement Award (Regional) at a ceremony held by the Singapore Environment Council’s (SEC) recently.The SEAA (Regional) Award category recognizes local or international companies and organizations with outstanding environmental performance in Asia, and this year, the regional scope has been expanded to welcome companies from Greater China, Japan, South Korea, and ASEAN countries to take part in the awards scheme.In the review and evaluation process, the SEAA Assessment Committee (AC) assigned both the SEC and Deloitte, an international auditing firm…

Singapore Recognises 53 Ships Under Green Ship Programme

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) today recognised another 53 Green Ships from 41 companies that have qualified for the Green Ship Programme (GSP) at the Third Singapore Registry of Ships Forum (SRS Forum). The GSP encourages Singapore-flagged ships to reduce carbon dioxide and sulphur oxides emissions. Qualifying Singapore-flagged ships can enjoy a reduction of Initial Registration Fees and a rebate on Annual Tonnage Tax. Since the GSP's inception in 2011, 247 Green Ships under the Singapore Flag have joined the programme. Additionally, 10 maritime companies signed the Maritime Singapore Green Pledge. This brings the total number of signees to 100 companies since the initiative's inception in 2011.

MPA Rewarded for Green Practices

The Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) clinched top honours at this year's Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards. MPA has won two of the three titles given to the sector, including the overall Outstanding Singapore Environmental Achievement Award. It was also named joint-winner for the public sector category together with the Nanyang Technological University. At an event organised by the Singapore Environment Council (SEC) on Wednesday, (Aug 26) MPA was presented the Outstanding Singapore Environmental Achievement Award. The green awards were launched in 1997 to inspire local commitment to corporate best practices in the environment. MPA launched the Maritime Singapore Green Initiative in 2011 with an investment of S$100 million.
