New FORAN Update from SENER

SENER Ingeniería y Sistemas SA launched a new version of its marine CAD/CAM system, the FORAN V80. The new version is fully compatible with the previous ones and includes improvements in all of its modules. The main upgrades come from the initial and basic project stages, where the calculations and results can be reused in further steps. Regarding the hull structure and outfitting modules, they add extra functionality such as the new advanced welding managing, or enhancements in the P&ID – 3D piping link, now with a more flexible and complete data locking system. BAE Systems Awards Software Contract to SENER

The Spanish company SENER, Ingeniería y Sistemas S.A has closed a contract with U.K.-based BAE Systems PLC for the integration between FORAN CAD/CAM System and PTC’s Windchill PLM System to be used in the design and manufacturing activities of Type 26 Program. According to the contract, FORAN-Windchill Integration (FWI) will be implemented in BAE Systems Naval Ships in Scotstoun and Portsmouth. FWI is being deployed following a phased approach. New FORAN Update from SENER

SENER Ingeniería y Sistemas SA informs it has launched a new version of its marine CAD/CAM system, the FORAN V80, which incorporates new capabilities to cope with demands from the marine shipbuilding, civil, offshore and naval sectors. The new version is fully compatible with the previous ones and includes improvements in all of its modules, SENER said in launching the update. The main upgrades come from the initial and basic project stages, where the calculations and results can be reused in further steps. Regarding the hull structure and outfitting modules, they add extra functionality such as the new advanced welding managing, or enhancements in the P&ID – 3D piping link, now with a more flexible and complete data locking system.

FORAN for Pertamina's Future Ships

FORAN has been chosen by state-owned company PERTAMINA to review the design of their future oil product carrier ships, under construction in a shipyard with the FORAN System. PERTAMINA, a company based in Jakarta, Indonesia, signed a contract with SENER Ingeniería y Sistemas S.A. (SENER) for the use of the FORAN FVIEWER application in the coming years. FVIEWER is part of the FORAN System, developed by SENER, and conducts an immersive navigation throughout the 3D model of the ship, allowing to query the model for properties and attributes, checking visual interferences and making annotations. The solution has the necessary capabilities to measure clearances and distances and to study ergonomics in complex areas such as the engine room.

Foran Employed in Production Design of Pushboat

FORAN has been used by the naval architecture firm ROBERT ALLAN LTD. in the review of the production design of 6000 HP Shallow Draft Pushboat, to be built in Erin Shipyard in Manaus, Brazil. ROBERT ALLAN Ltd., a Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Company based in Vancouver, Canada signed a contract with SENER Ingeniería y Sistemas S.A. (SENER) for the use of FORAN FVIEWER during this project. The 6000 HP Shallow Draft Pushboat was designed by ROBERT ALLAN LTD. for Hidrovias do Brasil. GHENOVA INGENIERIA & GHENOVA BRASIL are developing the complete 3D Model and 2D Production Design.

The signing ceremony of the Academic License Agreement between SENER Ingeniería y Sistemas S.A. (SIS) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) was held on December 4, in the frame of Marintec 2013 international exhibition held at the Shanghai New International Exhibition Center. By virtue of the agreement, SJTU is granted the license to use the FORAN System for educational purposes, SENER (Shanghai) Systems Co., Ltd. (SSS) is commissioned to provide training and technical assistance services, and in general new ways of collaboration in research, development and innovation projects are opened.

STX Canada Marine Purchases FORAN System

The naval architecture and marine engineering consultant STX Canada Marine (STXM) signed a contract with Sener Ingeniería y Sistemas, S.A. (SENER) for the license to use the FORAN CAD/CAM System. After the implementation of FORAN in its headquarters in Vancouver, STXM is conducting a learning process during the summer focused in the early design process in 3D. STXM has acquired FORAN licenses covering hull forms, general arrangement and naval architecture, hull structure, machinery and outfitting and drafting and drawing.

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. entered into an agreement with Spain's Sener Ingeniería y Sistemas S.A. (Sener) for the license to use the Foran CAD/CAM System, developed by Sener, in their shipbuilding activities. With this, Eastern has taken the steps to enlarge a ship design office at its shipyards in Panama City, Florida, USA. The agreement includes the implementation of the complete Foran System comprising: Forms Generation, General Arrangement & Naval Architecture, Hull Structure, Machinery & Outfitting, Electrical Design and Advanced Design &Drafting.

Sener and Gumeco Sign a Foran System Contract

SENER Ingeniería y Sistemas, S.A. and Guangzhou Marine Engineering Corporation (GUMECO) have recently signed a contract for the right to use the FORAN System in the facilities from GUMECO.   The scope of supply covers all the disciplines and corresponding training for GUMECO personnel. Training has been completed and now GUMECO has already started to use FORAN for new design projects. The FORAN System has thus become the main design toolset at GUMECO, and will be used for their future ship projects. The contract represents a successful move forward for FORAN System in the growing Chinese Shipbuilding Industry.

Guangdong Yuexin Ocean Engineering Co., Ltd Acquires FORAN Licenses

SENER Ingeniería y Sistemas, S.A. and Guangdong Yuexin Ocean Engineering Co., Ltd –GYOE- (formerly Yuexin Shipbuilding Co., Ltd) have signed an agreement for the implementation of the FORAN CAD/CAM System in the Chinese shipyard, to be used in their shipbuilding activities. The agreement has been signed after a visit of a delegation from SENER. Located in southern China, in Guangzhou area, GYOE is a leading and expanding international player in new buildings, specialized in the offshore market. Has a large experience in AHTS vessels, support and maintenance vessels, multi-purpose utility vessels and tugs. FORAN System was selected over the rest of CAD solutions after a three months pilot test, with successful results.

Sener in Ocean Renewable Energy Project

Sener Ingeniería y Sistemas, S.A. is one of the companies participating in the CENIT-E OCEAN LIDER Project, led by Iberdrola. The Project is a technological initiative promoted by a consortium of companies with strong research capacity facing the challenge of generating knowledge for the efficient exploitation of the oceanic renewable resources. SENER is going to investigate in two of the five Activities within the Project. Activity II aims to research technologies and energy production systems from renewable oceanic sources, such as waves and currents. But the most ambitious project is the energy obtained from the wind, waves, currents and tides simultaneously.

GP-Service Uses Foran for Structure Yachts Design

The Italian engineering company GP Service S.R.L. has entered into an agreement with the Spanish Sener Ingeniería y Sistemas S.A. for the license to use the Foran CAD/CAM System in their ship design activities in Italy. The agreement includes the implementation of the complete Foran hull structural package, forms generation and advanced design and drafting. Designers from GP Service have received on-site training in the disciplines of the Foran System during 2008. GP Service is currently using Foran to develop the hull structure of yachts. Sener New Office in Abu Dhabi

Sener Ingeniería y Sistemas, S.A. has opened a new office in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. This new office is located in the Gulf Business Centre district of downtown Abu Dhabi and will be Sener’s local headquarters to develop projects in the power and process sector, the civil engineering and architecture sector, as well as the aerospace sector. Sener began to take an interest in the business opportunities available in the emirate of Abu Dhabi in 2007, when the company made its first contacts there. This led to the creation of Torresol Energy in March 2008.

Sener Wins BAE Contract

Sener Ingeniería y Sistemas S.A closed a contract with UK-based BAE Systems PLC for the license to use the FORAN CAD/CAM System in its shipbuilding activities. According to the contract, FORAN can be implemented in any BAE Systems Group company, any member of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance as well as in any subcontractor of the above companies. FORAN is currently implemented at the following BAE Systems Group companies: - BAE Systems Submarine Solutions, Barrow-in-Furness - BAE Systems Surface Fleet Solutions Limited, Scotstoun, Glasgow As a first result of the contract, about 200 licences have been installed at both sites. These licenses are currently being used for developing the different stages of the CVF project as well as for internal training.

Panama Canal Requests Proposals For New Locks Construction

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) released its Request for Proposal (RFP) Friday on the "design-build" contract for the new locks under the Canal's Expansion Program. Four global consortia will now move forward with their bids on what will be the largest and most important project under the $5.25b expansion. The Expansion Program will build a new lane of traffic along the Panama Canal through the construction of a new set of locks, doubling capacity and allowing more traffic and longer, wider ships. The ACP will meet with consortia representatives in February 2008 regarding the content of the RFP for the construction of the new set of locks. Proposals are due August 2008.

SENER Setup First China FORAN Technical Support Center

An opening ceremony for the first FORAN China Technical Support Center was held in September the 27th in Zhenjiang, China. At the same time a cooperation agreement was signed between Jiangsu University of Science and Technology (JUST), SENER INGENIERIA Y SISTEMAS, S.A. (SENER) and United Force Corporation (UFC). Dong Shirun, Vice President of JUST, Luis Garcia, Executive Vice President of SENER Marine and Mr. Jeff Song, Vice President of UFC attended the ceremony. According to the agreement, 50 licenses of FORAN are installed in JUST for educational purposes and the execution of real projects. Dong emphasized that in order to give strong support to Chinese users of FORAN, JUST will also develop necessary functions, such as localization and customization, based on FORAN.

BAE Systems, SENER Close $3.8M Deal

Acting on behalf of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance (ACA), UK-based BAE Systems Marine Limited, has closed a contract with the Spanish company Sener Ingeniería y Sistemas S.A., for the license to use the FORAN System in the development of the Stage 1 (System Design) of the CVF Project (UK Royal Navy Future Aircraft Carrier). The contract involves around 100 FORAN seats and a specified set of support services. Activities have started immediately and FORAN has already been installed at the Glasgow, Barrow-in-Furness and Portsmouth sites. Services to be provided by SENER include training, customization, on-site and remote technical assistance, as well as the development of interfaces between FORAN and existing Business Systems.

Yacht in Collision with Ship in Fog

Yarmouth Coastguard received a mayday call from the yacht Whispa reporting that they had been in collision with a commercial vessel 7 miles south east of Lowestoft. The wooden built 45 foot yacht with 2 people on board made the mayday call to the coastguard after being in collision with the 4,000 ton gas carrier Gas Monarch in Fog. The Gas Monarch was carrying a cargo of 2,500 tonnes of propane. The weather at the time of the incident was reported as North West force 2/3 with 0 visibility in fog. Yarmouth Coastguard requested the launch of the Lowestoft RNLI lifeboat to go to the aid of the yacht and the crew. The lifeboat and yacht were met on arrival at Lowestoft by the Lowestoft Coastguard rescue team. The Gas Monarch stood by the yacht Whispa until the arrival of the lifeboat.

Sener Signs Foran Contract with Aker Yards

Aker Yards ASA has entered into a Contract with the Spanish company Sener Ingeniería y Sistemas S.A. for the implementation of FORAN System across the group's shipbuilding organization. The Contract was signed by Jørgen Berg (IT Vice President) on behalf of Aker Yards ASA, and by Luis Garcia (General Manager of the Marine Business Unit) on behalf of Sener. FORAN is already operating successfully at 7 sites of the group. Based on the experience using FORAN so far, Aker Yards has decided to extend the cooperation with Sener by making a FORAN Frame Contract for future investments into CAD/CAM shipbuilding solutions. Currently, Aker Yards owns more than 350 licenses of the main FORAN packages (Hull Structure and Outfitting).
