Sunken Fishing Vessel Spilling Oil Off San Juan Island

A commercial fishing vessel that sank Saturday near San Juan Island, Wash. is spilling oil, the U.S. Coast Guard said.All five crewmembers from the sinking Aleutian Isle were rescued by a Good Samaritan, and no injuries have been reported.The 49-foot vessel sank with approximately 2,500 gallons of diesel fuel and a combined 100 gallons of hydraulic fluid and lubricant oil aboard, according to the Coast Guard. A sheen has been observed spanning more than two miles and was reported to have entered Canadian waters as the vessel continues to release small amounts of diesel.At approximately 2 p.m.

Spectrum of the Seas Delivered

Cruise line Royal Caribbean International officially took delivery of the 26th ship in its fleet, 169,000 grt Spectrum of the Seas, in a ceremony Thursday in Bremerhaven, Germany.The first ship in the Quantum-Ultra class, the Meyer Werft built Spectrum of the Seas measures 347.1 meters long and 41.4 meters wide. Altogether, the vessel has 18 decks with 2,137 cabins offering space for 4,246 passengers in double occupancy and 1,551 crew members.The Bahamas flagged Spectrum of the Seas will be the largest and most expensive ship in Asia when she arrives to her new home in Shanghai on June 3…

Crowley Delivers for London's Royal Ballet

Beginning this week hundreds and possibly even thousands of Cubans will have the opportunity to see world-class dancers from The Royal Ballet, Great Britain's largest and most prestigious ballet company, as they perform in Cuba's two most iconic theaters, the Gran Teatro de la Habana, Sala Garcia Lorca and the Karl Marx Teatro. The second of four cruise vessels to be constructed at the Meyer Werft Shipyard for Star Cruises, the Asian-based company recently accepted delivery of Superstar Virgo on August 2 - two weeks prior to its originally agreed delivery date. The 76,800-grt vessel, which combines Asian-inspired décor with sophisticated technology, offers cabins with private balconies and an array of first-rate entertainment and dining options. Virgo boasts a technically advanced diesel-electric propulsion plant, as well as the most up-to-date interactive communication systems and state-of-the-art stage equipment. After acceptance by Star Cruises' Eemshaven location in the Netherlands, the vessel will depart for Singapore, followed by a presentation in Alexandria/Egypt.
