A crew from Coast Guard Station Gloucester, Mass, rescued a man after his sailboat capsized near the station in Gloucester Harbor Tuesday. At 3:35 p.m., the station received a call from the harbor master that the 14-foot sailing vessel had overturned with one person aboard. A crew aboard a 25-foot Response Boat launched and was on scene within minutes to find the man clinging to his boat. He was not wearing a lifejacket. The rescue crew maneuvered the boat closer, safely brought the man aboard, and transferred him to the pier. A nearby mariner offered assistance by towing the half-submerged sailing vessel to shore. "It was lucky we were close by,” said Fireman Joshua Brooks, the watchstander at Station Gloucester.

A fishing crew is back on land today after a fouled anchor line stranded them about 115 miles east of Gloucester, Massachusetts, Saturday. Initially, the four-person crew aboard the 61-foot fishing vessel Angela Michelle contacted the Sector Boston Command Center when their line became wrapped in the ship's rudder and propeller. Rescue crews from the Coast Guard Cutter Legare, a 270-foot Medium Endurance Cutter from Portsmouth, Virginia, arrived on scene and took the vessel in tow toward Gloucester, Massachusetts. They were met Sunday at about 9 a.m by a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Station Gloucester who relieved tow and took the Angela Michelle into port. They arrived safely at the pier in Gloucester at about 1 p.m.

Coast Guard search and rescue crews from Station Gloucester, Air Station Cape Cod and the Coast Guard Cutter Ocracoke rescued nine crewmembers from the Canadian tall ship Liana's Ransom 58 miles east of Gloucester, Monday. Watchstanders at the Sector Boston Command Center received notification at 12:35 a.m. that the vessel's engines were disabled and its sails were wrapped around the mast. As the weather deteriorated, and seas reached nearly 10 feet, Sector Boston launched two 47-foot motor lifeboat crews from Station Gloucester to tow the vessel back to Gloucester. Once on scene, the boat crews connected the tow, but the rough sea conditions caused the tow line to break.

Coast Guard crews assisted a disabled fishing vessel 35 miles east of Gloucester, Massachusetts, on Thursday. At about 4 p.m., Wednesday, the three person crew of the fishing vessel Kristin and Michael notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Boston that their vessel was experiencing engine problems and they had become disabled. Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba was diverted to the scene and took the Kristen and Michael in tow. The crew of the Escanaba transferred the tow to a Coast Guard Station Gloucester crew, who then safely moored the Kristen and Michael at their homeport in Gloucester Harbor at about 9:30 a.m. There were no medical concerns on board.

U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) crews are assisting a disabled passenger vessel approximately 13 miles east of Nahant, Massachusetts, Monday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Boston received notification at approximately 4:30 p.m., that the 83-foot passenger vessel Cetacea had a line entangled in its propeller and was disabled with 163 people aboard. The Coast Guard Cutter Tybee, Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba, and a Coast Guard Station Gloucester, Massachusetts, small boat crew have responded and are on scene. The Escanaba is providing medical personnel to evaluate the passengers and crew for medical concerns and assist if necessary. Boston Harbor Cruises has a vessel with divers scheduled to attempt to clear the line from the propeller Tuesday morning.

The crew of Coast Guard Station Emerald Isle is scheduled to hold a change-of-command ceremony Friday at the station in Emerald Isle, N.C. During the ceremony, Chief Petty Officer Matthew Wolanzyk will relieve Chief Warrant Officer Robert Lepere, who served as the officer-in-charge of Station Emerald Isle since 2010. Station Emerald Isle's missions include search and rescue, recreational boating safety, law enforcement and marine environmental protection. The station is home to 24 active-duty members and 11 reserve members. The area of responsibility for the station includes Bogue Sound, Bogue Inlet, Stump Sound, New River, New River Inlet and the intracoastal waterway via Surf City, N.C.

The Coast Guard, Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Company responded after a tug and barge struck a railroad bridge in Beverly, MA, on December 21, 2007. The 35-foot tug Edna, owned by Jay Cashman Inc., with barge Weeks #70, was transporting dredge material outbound on the Danvers River to Beverly Harbor when the barge struck the Beverly Railroad Bridge at approximately 4:45 a.m. Both the barge and bridge sustained minimal damage. No injuries were reported. The MBTA and MBCR are working to repair damages to the bridge. Two crewmembers from Coast Guard Station Gloucester worked with the Beverly harbor master to assess damage to the barge, which was minimal.

Coast Guard units from Mass., have assisted a leaking fishing vessel today, resulting in three fisherman being evacuated from their craft shortly before it sank. Coast Guard assistance began at 3 a.m. when the Sea Trek reported it was taking on water near Chatham, Mass. A 44-ft. Coast Guard rescue boat arrived on scene and gave the Sea Trek crew a dewatering pump. The crew of the fishing vessel was able to use the pump to bring the water level down and allow their vessel to function properly. The Coast Guard escorted the Sea Trek to Race Point. After reaching Race Point, a communications schedule was set up with the Coast Guard to ensure the Sea Trek was proceeding in a safe manner.
