Moss Hydro Engineers Create Revolutionary Filters
Newly-formed Moss Hydro has been established to address a ballast water challenge that is threatening the entire shipping industry – reliable filtration. Stein Foss, the former CEO and co-founder of ballast water treatment (BWT) business OceanSaver, has set up the independent company with three partners, and an array of engineering, marketing and manufacturing experts. OceanSaver Names Houtan Houshangi Interim CEO
OceanSaver, a leading global provider of class-approved, high capacity ballast water treatment (BWT) systems, today appointed Houtan Houshangi as interim Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Houshangi replaces Stein Foss who successfully developed and commercialized OceanSaver BWT system technology since the company’s inception in 2003. Foss will still be associated with OceanSaver and will together with the interim CEO focus on ensuring a smooth transition of leadership and the search for and hiring of his replacement. “Foss has played a critical role in OceanSaver.
Höegh Trove: First Vessel with Full OceanSaver BWT System
OceanSaver announced the commissioning of its first fully operational system onboard Höegh Autoliners PCTC (Pure Car Truck Carrier), Höegh Trove. “Höegh Trove is the first vessel in the world to have a fully operational OceanSaver BWT system. OceanSaver cost-effectively complies with pending IMO Ballast Water Treatment regulations,” says Oistein Dahl, President of Höegh Fleet Services and Head of Ship Management at Höegh Autoliners (Höegh). Höegh has built a strong green brand through its ISO 14001 certification and ongoing eco-friendly initiatives, including scrapping 10 vessels and recycling garbage onboard. “We are looking for the best systems and products to give us a very green footprint.
Major Dalian VLCC Contract for OceanSaver
OceanSaver announced that Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company (DSIC) has ordered ballast water management (BWM) systems for six VLCCs thus lifting the company’s order book to approximately $45m. The DSIC VLCC contract follows recent OceanSaver BWM system orders with Hyundai Heavy Industries for two high-spec Suezmax crude-oil tankers and six VLCCs at the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Company in China. To date, OceanSaver has won BWM system contracts for 17 vessels – all of them large tankers. As of July 8th this year, 26 (25% of the world’s tonnage) of 30 possible flag states have ratified the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments adopted in 2004.
