Engine Room Fire Sparks Request for New IMO Requirements
The UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) has released its report into the engine room fire on board ro-ro passenger ferry Stena Europe as it approached Fishguard, Wales.At 2115 on 11 February 2023, a fire broke out in the engine room of the vessel while on passage from Rosslare, Ireland, to Fishguard, Wales. IPS Completes Repair Job for Stena Line
Engineering firm IPS Marine Fabrications said it has completed major upgrade work for ferry operator Stena Europe. The company, which is headquartered in Birkenhead, has repaired and maintained fabricated air handling units throughout the Stena Europe vessel. IPS manufactures insulation products, particularly aimed at the marine industry, and has in-house machining facilities. Director Paul Smith said the project was completed while the Stena Europe, which operates between Fishguard in South Wales and Rosslare in the Republic of Ireland, was afloat.
Northrop Grumman Upgrades Navigation Equipment on Stena Line Ferries
Northrop Grumman Corporation has completed an integrated bridge system retrofit for several RoPax ferries operated by Stena Line. Northrop Grumman's Sperry Marine business unit provided a fully networked suite of scalable navigation products from the VisionMaster FT series, used to form the core of a ship's integrated bridge. The Stena Superfast VII and Stena Superfast VIII vessels were upgraded with VisionMaster FT navigation radars, a voyage data recorder, and an electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS) that provides full control on both bridge wings.
