Maintenance & Certification: Critical to the Safety of Life at Sea

Oceans '13 MTS/IEEE San Diego Preview

Heeding the call to join “An Ocean in Common,” authors flooded the Oceans ‘13 MTS/IEEE San Diego technical program committee with a record number of abstracts in a single day. Special topics include an Ultra-deep track discussing current and prospective robotic technologies, plus a panel of scientists to consider research questions. Oceans2013 Chair Bob Wernli, and Co-Chair Kevin Hardy, developer of the unmanned landers for James Cameron’s DeepSea Challenge Expedition, will be the session conveners. “James’ intention is to be certain the door remains open to other explorers,” Hardy said.

New Pipelay Vessel Mobilized

Subsea 7 Inc. (OSE Symbol: SUB) announced that the Seven Pacific – a dynamically positioned (DP), pipelay and construction ice-class vessel, designed for deepwater pipelay and offshore construction activities worldwide - has mobilized for its first project.The eighth new vessel to join Subsea 7’s fleet since 2007, the Seven Pacific is capable of installing flexible pipes and umbilicals in water depths of up to 3,000 m. Its first assignment is on the Block 18 project in Angola. The vessel's pipelay equipment has a tension capacity of 260 tonnes and a 2,500-tonne storage capacity for flexible pipe on the two underdeck carousels. There is also a built-in deepwater dual 3,000 m-rated work-class ROV spread and a comprehensive survey system. A large deck area of 1,700 sq.

Subsea 7 Gets Petrobras Contract Offshore Brazil

Subsea 7 Inc. (OSE Symbol: SUB), through its i-Tech division, announced the largest single contract award to i-Tech since the formation of the division in January 2006. The award from Petroléo Brasileiro S/A (Petrobras) is for the provision of ROV and intervention tooling services onboard a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 30 offshore drilling units. The contract value is estimated at a minimum of $250m with the potential for up to $405m, dependent upon the number of units awarded and the number of personnel deployed. i-Tech will provide a newly designed ROV based on its successful Centurion QX work-class ROV. The ROV systems will be mobilised in Brazil onboard rigs currently on hire to Petrobras and onboard a number of new build rigs.

Subsea 7's Hot Tap Technology Tested

Subsea 7 Inc (OSE Symbol: SUB) has announced that following a three year development, testing and qualification program, its new subsea hot tap technology - Subsea Grouted Tee (SSGT), has successfully completed offshore trials in the North Sea and further demonstrated the technology's deepwater, diverless potential. Following an extensive DNV approved onshore testing program in test tanks and laboratories, the offshore trials of the SSGT technology involved the mobilization of a subsea grout mixing and injection unit, complete with test tee assemblies, on Subsea 7’s Seven Pelican dive support vessel (DSV). Subsea 7 - 3rd Qtr Report

The company’s performance summary gave highlights for the quarter including: good project execution in all regions delivering EBITDA of $164.8 million; satisfactory financial result despite currency losses and mark-to-market adjustment of derivatives; and award of largest contract to date in Africa from BP in respect of Block 31 - signed first call-off contract under the framework agreement with an estimated value of $460 million. Furthermore, the report noted that the Boards of Directors of Subsea 7 Inc. and Acergy discussed the possibility of a combination between the two companies. These discussions were terminated on Monday 20 October 2008.

Subsea 7 Gets $100m Contract with StatoilHydro

Subsea 7 Inc has been awarded a $100m contract from StatoilHydro for engineering, procurement, construction and installation of the Troll B Gas Injection project in the Norwegian sector of the . The Troll B Gas Injection project will be developed with two separate subsea satellite wells, located respectively 3.5 km and 6.5 km south of the Troll B platform. The wells will be connected to the Troll B platform by a single gas injection pipeline and a control umbilical. Subsea 7’s scope is to engineer, procure, fabricate and install a 6.5 km long 12” rigid pipeline, incorporating in-line and end structures for the connection to the satellite wells, in addition to the control umbilicals.

Subsea 7 Awarded Contract from Ithaca Energy

Subsea 7 Inc, has been awarded a contract by Ithaca Energy (UK) Limited for installation works in Block 12/21c of the UK Sector North Sea approximately 10.5km north east of the existing Beatrice Alpha facilities. The contract is valued in excess of  $22m. Subsea 7 Announces Investment In New Pipelay Vessel

Subsea 7 Inc announced that it has signed a contract for the construction of a new-build pipelay and construction vessel. The overall project cost is in the region of USD 190 million and is based on fixed prices from the Merwede shipyard. The vessel will have an overall length of 133m and a beam of 24m. She will be equipped with a pipelay suite for installing flexible flowlines and umbilicals, including a Vertical Lay System tower and twin underdeck carousels, a 250t crane from Huisman and twin 3000m-rated ROVs. The ship is expected to be delivered in the third quarter of 2010. The vessel further enhances Subsea 7's pipelay capabilities, particularly in deepwater.

Subsea 7 Announces Contract Award on Sul Capixaba Pipeline Project

Subsea 7 Inc. announced that it has been awarded a contract valued in excess of $200m by Petrobras (Petroleo Brasileiro S/A) for an EPIC contract, in the offshore . The contract will involve the design, engineering, procurement, fabrication and installation of the 78 km Sul Capixaba 12" Export Gas Pipeline and end termination assembly in the Jubarte field. The project also involves the execution of a horizontally drilled shore approach and pre commissioning. The gas export pipeline will eventually connect the FPSO P-57 in the deepwater Jubarte field to the Petrobras onshore installation in Anchieta, Espirito Santo. The offshore pipeline installation campaign will take place during 2009 and will be carried out by one of Subsea 7's pipeline installation vessels.

Subsea 7 Announces Contract With Petrobas

Subsea 7 Inc announced today that it has been awarded a contract by Petrobras America, a subsidiary of Petrobras for installation works in the deepwater Cascade & Chinook fields in the Gulf of Mexico. The contract is valued at $50 million. Subsea 7 will engineer and install 229658 ft. of power cables and control umbilicals and fabricate and install 16 jumpers in the Cascade & Chinook fields, located at Block 425 of Walter Ridge area in water depths ranging from 7545 ft.-9842 ft. Work will commence immediately with the Project Management and Engineering team located in Subsea 7’s offices in Houston. Fabrication of the jumpers will be carried out at Subsea 7’s logistic base in Mobile, Alabama.

SubSea Solutions Alliance Provides Quick Fix - Underwater

With offices in key locations at the world's busiest cruise ports, the Subsea Solutions Alliance can be at the scene of an emergency repair on a moment's notice. If a repair happens to be one that requires more diver technicians than are available at one location, additional personnel are then brought in from the other Alliance members. While the relationship between Miami Diver, All-Sea and Trident spans 15 years a formal alliance was not established until earlier this year. According to Kevin Peters president of Miami Diver, there was no doubt in his mind that the alliance would not have been an immediate success. "Because of this venture, we now have more locations and more trained personnel to serve the cruise industry," Peters said.

Halliburton Announces 1Q Results

Halliburton announced that net income in the first quarter of 2006 was $488m, or $0.91 per diluted share, compared to net income of $365m, or $0.72 per diluted share, in the first quarter of 2005. Net income in the first quarter of 2006 included income from discontinued operations of $7m after tax, or $0.01 per diluted share, primarily related to the operations of KBR's Production Services group, which is expected to be sold in the second quarter of 2006 with a pretax gain of approximately $100m. Net income in the first quarter of 2005 also included income from discontinued operations of $6m after tax, or $0.01 per diluted share. ABB Wins Contracts Totaling $140M

ABB has been awarded contracts worth $140 million to supply its Azipod® propulsion systems for three vessels and electrical power systems for 11 vessels and two semi-submersible drilling rigs. Six 10 Megawatt (MW) Azipod propulsion units for three Arctic shuttle tankers being built for Russia’s Sovcomflot at Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea for delivery between 2007-2009. The order also includes main generators, main switchboards, propulsion transformers, propulsion drives and propulsion and remote control systems from ABB. One drilling vessel for Norway’s Mosvold Drilling, also to be built at Samsung Korea. The ABB scope includes generators, thruster motors, main switchboards and transformers.

Halliburton's Brown & Root Wins ROV Drilling Support Contract

As a division of Brown & Root Energy International, Services (BRES), SubSea International, Inc. has been awarded a contract to provide remotely operated vehicle (ROV) services to support Burlington Resources, Inc.'s drilling program in the Gulf of Mexico. Brown & Root Energy Services is a business unit of Halliburton Company. Operating from onboard semi-submersible Borgny Dolphin, SubSea International's ROV systems. include a custom-built heavy launch and recovery system, a four-point guide wire cursor system and a Pioneer work-class ROV.

Amclyde Wins Contracts

FGH Engineered Products Group, the equipment segment of Friede Goldman Halter, Inc., announced that its AmClyde unit has signed new contracts in excess of $13.5 million with customers in Freeport, Texas and Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. "AmClyde is very pleased to receive these key orders from our long-standing customer NPCC (National Petroleum Construction Company) of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates and our new customer Cabett Subsea Products, Inc. of Houston, Texas," said Dick Juelich, AmClyde President. AmClyde has a contract with NPCC to provide a significant operating increase of the lifting capacity and reach for their 2000-ton model 76 marine crane, originally built in 1973.
