A new unmanned surface vessel (USV) launched by U.K.-based marine and offshore services firm Star International has been designed for use by shipping operators to identify piracy threats and inform evasive actions.The Narwhal Star USV is an oceangoing rigid inflatable boat (RIB) surveillance platform that can be piloted via a remote ground control system (GCS), or used as a conventional, manually piloted vessel. Synectics Shows Offshore Success with Multiple Vessel Contracts
Global surveillance business Synectics has been awarded contracts for ten marine and offshore vessels including LNG Carriers, LPG Carriers and Floating Storage Regasification Units (FSRUs). Scheduled for construction in South Korea and China, the international vessels will all be equipped with end-to-end surveillance solutions comprising Synectics’ COEX camera stations, Synergy command and control functionality, and tailored integrations. Coastal Watch Center Opens in Philippines
A new National Coast Watch Center (NCWC) for maritime security has opened in the Republic of the Philippines. Raytheon Company designed, implemented and equipped the center and its coastal system using the company's integrated border security solutions. The NCWC is the hub of the Philippines' National Coast Watch System for maritime security. The system improves the ability of the country's maritime forces to detect, prevent and deter threats and security risks across its territorial waters. The Raytheon team also provided communication and surveillance solutions for the islands of Palawan and Cebu with associated training and sustainment for the Filipino operators.
McMurdo Completes Techno-Sciences Acquisition
Strategic acquisition validates Orolia's McMurdo Group as premier supplier of COSPAS-SARSAT search and rescue solutions, establishes U.S. McMurdo Group, a global company in end-to-end search and rescue (SAR) and maritime domain awareness (MDA) solutions, today announced the successful acquisition of Techno-Sciences, Inc. (TSi), a provider of SAR satellite ground stations, integrated emergency response center systems and coastal surveillance solutions. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. TSi’s Beltsville, Maryland location becomes the U.S. Headquarters for McMurdo Group, a division of Orolia (NYSE Alternext Paris – FR0010501015 – ALORO), global specialist in critical Global Navigation Satellite System solutions.
