Norwegian Firms Establishes Freight Route for Uncrewed Cargo Vessels

Norwegian firm Maritime Robotics said it has been given the green light to establish a freight route for its uncrewed vessels in the Trondheimsfjord in Norway.With approval from the Norwegian Coastal Administration and the Norwegian Maritime Directorate, Maritime Robotics will now operate its environmentally friendly and sustainable uncrewed surface vehicles (USV) to transport goods and equipment between its headquarters in Trondheim and production premises in Vanvikan, located on the Fosenhalvøya.Maritime Robotics’ uncrewed surface vehicle…

Scania Appoints Karin Rådström as EVP

Swedish manufacturer of diesel engines for marine industry Scania announced that Karin Rådström has been appointed Executive Vice President and Head of Sales and Marketing.She takes up her position on 1 March and will report to Henrik Henriksson, President and CEO.Rådström, born in 1979, joined Scania as trainee in 2004 after graduating Master of Engineering in Industrial Management at Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. Since 2007, she has held various managerial positions within Scania’s sales and service organization. She took up her current position in 2016.“I welcome Karin Rådström to my team and look forward to her contribution to the further development of Scania’s market performance.

Best Year for Stockholm Port

Swedish Ports of Stockholm summarized 2018 as a record revenue year, with stable freight volumes and a record number of cruise passengers.Sweden’s biggest passenger port saw more than 16 million passengers travelling by ferry, cruise ship or on archipelago services in 2018.“2018 was our best year, both financially and in terms of volumes. Dubai's DP World Completes Danish Unifeeder Acquistion

Global port operator DP World says it has completed the acquisition of Danish logistics firm Unifeeder for $748 million.DP World’s full acquisition of Unifeeder Group from Nordic Capital Fund VIII was announced in August, but finalized on Thursday."DP World PLC is pleased to advise that it has closed the transaction to acquire 100% of Unifeeder Group from Nordic Capital Fund VIII and certainminority shareholders," said one sentence statement from the Dubai-based global marine terminal operator."Unifeeder Group is now part of the DP World Group, a leading enabler of global trade and an integral part of the supply chain," said a statement…

New Samskip Container Service for Amsterdam

A new short-sea container service between Amsterdam and Hull has been formally inaugurated with the first call of the 340-TEU vessel THEA II at Amsterdam Container Terminal (ACT). The new service, operated by leading short sea container operator Samskip, offers three sailings a week on this new route with vessels departing from Amsterdam on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Commenting on the new service, Clemence Cheng, Managing Director of Hutchison Ports Europe, said: “Amsterdam Container Terminal offers shipping lines the opportunity to serve their customers in a fast, efficient, reliable and sustainable manner. Samskip to Sail Between Hull and Amsterdam

Samskip has announced a major enhancement in its shortsea and multimodal services between the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, with the addition of direct connections between Amsterdam and Hull three times a week. The value proposition to customers will also include barge and rail systems connecting the European hinterland to Amsterdam. Innovation for Sustainable Transport

A UN conference has highlighted the importance of technology and innovation in ensuring sustainable transport for all. International Maritime Organization (IMO)  was present at the UN’s first ever Global Sustainable Transport Conference, held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan (26-27 November). Concluding the two-day conference with the so-called ‘Ashgabat Statement’, participants stressed the need to promote the integration of science, technology and innovation into sustainable transport systems by tapping into technological opportunities in the decades to come, in order to bring about fundamental, transformative changes to transport systems.

Previously the Greencarrier name had only been used by companies that formed part of Greencarrier Freight Services, the division of the Björk.Eklund Group offering customised logistics and transport solutions worldwide.
