Global Experts Gather for Ship Recycling Seminar

Around 300 people gathered in Tokyo on May 12 to attend a ship recycling seminar held by leading classification society ClassNK. In addition to ClassNK representatives, top industry experts from Asia and Europe discussed the current challenges of ship recycling and what the industry can do to support safe and environmentally sound recycling practices. Koichi Kato, Deputy Director-General for Engineering Affairs, Maritime Bureau of Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), opened the seminar with a keynote address.

SSA Showcases OSV Sector with OSV@Vivo 'Open House'

OSV@Vivo has been taken to the heart of the Singapore public with an anticipated 4,000 visitors, expected to throng the two state-of-the-art Offshore Support Vessels (OSV) “Pacific Legacy” and “VOS Prince” moored at local shopping mall Vivocity Waterfront Promenade from 21 to 23 April 2016. Local institutes of higher learning are lending their support to this inaugural event with some 600 students from the Institute of Technical Education and Ngee Ann Polytechnic already registered to attend. This industry-led project, spearheaded by the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) and held in conjunction with Singapore Maritime Week, is designed to create awareness of the offshore marine sector – a key sector in the Singapore maritime industry.

Swire Pacific Acquires Fourth PSV

Shipowner and operator, Swire Pacific Offshore Operations (Pte) Ltd (SPO) celebrated the delivery of its latest Platform Supply Vessel (PSV), Pacific Grackle on Thursday, 17 September 2015 in Japan. The G Class series is the latest addition to SPO’s fleet and is specially commissioned to meet the increasing market demand for PSV vessels. These vessels, with their 4,000-tonne deadweight, are powered by a four-engine diesel electric propulsion plant and equipped with highly efficient counter rotating azimuth thrusters ensuring excellent fuel efficiency. These FiFi 1, DP2 vessels, with their high Environmental Regularity Number (ERN) are SPS Compliant, Clean Class and built LFL notation ready, to allow for future methanol carriage.

Swire Pacific Offshore wins Industry Award at IMA

Shipowner and operator, Swire Pacific Offshore Operations (Pte) Ltd (SPO) won the SRS Shipowner of the Year award at the Singapore International Maritime Awards (IMA) 2015 ceremony held on Tuesday, 21 April 2014 at The Ritz-Carlton, Millennia Singapore. Held as one of the anchor events of the Singapore Maritime Week (19 - 24 April 2015), the biennial Singapore IMA ceremony seeks to give recognition to  individuals and companies for their contributions to Singapore's development as a premier global hub port and an international maritime centre. The event is organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). “Winning the SRS Shipowner of the Year award is a great honour for SPO as we celebrate our 40th anniversary this year.

Swire Pacific Offshore Acquires 2 Newbuildings

Shipowner and operator, Swire Pacific Offshore Operations (Pte) Ltd (SPO) celebrated the naming of two new vessels, Pacific Centurion, an Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessel, and Pacific Goldfinch, a Platform Supply Vessel (PSV) at the dual vessel naming ceremony held on Tuesday, 24 March 2015 at Loyang Offshore Supply Base. Swire Pacific Welcomes PSV, Pacific Liberty

Shipowner and operator, Swire Pacific Offshore Operations (Pte) Ltd (SPO) welcomed its fourth L Class Platform Supply Vessel (PSV), Pacific Liberty at a naming ceremony held in Kyoto, Japan on Tuesday, 3rd February 2015. The naming ceremony was held at Maizuru Shipyard of Japan Marine United Corporation (JMU) in Kyoto. Graced by Lady Sponsor, Mrs Sylvia Maria Z. Pertierra, the wife of Mr Eduardo Pertierra, President of Anscor Swire Ship Management Corporation, the event was attended by 30 people including Mr Rupert Bray, Marine Services Director of SPO and Mr Yoshio Otagaki, Representative Director and Vice President, Ship and Offshore Division, JMU.

SERS Partners IEMS for Enhanced Oil Spill Response Services

Dubai-based Swire Emergency Response Services (SERS), a fully owned subsidiary of Swire Pacific Offshore group, announced its partnership with Mediterranean-based International Environmental and Marine Services (IEMS) to jointly provide Tier 2/3 response services to clients in Europe, Africa and the Middle East The partnership was inked on 24 October in Dubai. “We are excited about the collaboration between SERS and IEMS. This partnership will allow both companies to leverage on each other’s expertise and provide a broader range of highly sophisticated, prompt and reliable emergency response services to the offshore oil and gas industry.

Graced by Lady Sponsor, Amanda Butt, the naming ceremony was held at Japan Marine United Corporation (JMU)’s Maizuru Shipyard and attended by guests, partners and employees of JMU and SPO. “The delivery of Pacific Legend continues our successful partnership with JMU. 51 Awarded Scholarships by Singapore Maritime Industry

A total of 51 scholarships worth more than S$1.4 million were awarded this year, as part of continuous outreach and talent development efforts to meet the manpower needs of the growing Singapore maritime industry - an area which contributes to some 7 per cent of the nation's economy. Sponsored by maritime companies and organisations, the MaritimeONE (Maritime Outreach NEtwork) scholarships and Tripartite Maritime Scholarship Scheme (TMSS) support various local and overseas diploma and degree programmes. In all, 40 MaritimeONE and 11 TMSS scholarships were presented at the MaritimeONE Scholarship Awards Ceremony held at the M Hotel Singapore this evening.

Attractive payback periods from the additional investments required for LNG fuelled shipping, along with no significant legal restrictions hindering development of LNG bunkering in Australia. This is the conclusion of a Joint Industry Project (JIP) focusing on LNG fuelled tugs and OSVs, managed by DNV with nine partners in Australia. The use of Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) as a fuel for ships is seen as one of the options to address the future environmental and commercial challenges in the shipping industry. With proper combinations of bunkering solutions such as tank trucks, permanent tanks and barges in the different ports, efficient LNG bunkering can be established. Australia LNG Bunkering Project Kicks Off

Det Norske Veritas (DNV) & nine key members of the Australian maritime, port and energy sectors have established the four-month study. The Joint Industry Project (JIP) is to facilitate the adoption of LNG fuelled vessels in Australian waters. The use of LNG as marine fuel eliminates SOx and particulate matter emissions, nets a 15% reduction in GHG emissions and diminishes that of NOx by 85-90%, which addresses both local and global pollution issues. The study aims to cover the infrastructure and regulatory requirements as well as the potential benefits and risks faced by energy majors, ports and ship-owners considering LNG fuelled vessels.

OSD Seals Ten New PSV Orders

Offshore Ship Designers has sealed ten new design contracts for large diesel-electric Platform Supply Vessels for two major offshore operators building at three shipyards in Brazil, Japan and Spain. Swire Pacific Offshore Operations (Pte) Limited has ordered four IMT-997 Platform Supply Vessels to be built by Universal Shipbuilding Corporation in Japan and four sister vessels to be built at the EISA shipyard in Brazil. The 97 m LOA 5,000 dwt vessels will be classed with DP2 capability and have diesel-electric propulsion systems with azimuth propulsion units.

ST Engineering Wins $60m Shipbuilding Contracts

Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) reports that its marine arm, ST Marine, has won two shipbuilding contracts worth about $60m from Swire Pacific Offshore Operations (Pte) Ltd (SPO), a wholly owned subsidiary of Swire Pacific Limited. These contracts to build and outfit two Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessels, measuring 92m by 22m, are in addition to the existing shipbuilding contract with SPO, announced in June 2011 for four AHTS vessels. For these contracts, SPO will supply a larger proportion of the major equipment for ST Marine’s integration and installation. Construction will commence in 2013. These two AHTS will adopt the latest Dynamic Positioning technology and will be Special Purpose Ship 2008 compliant.

ST Marine Successfully Delivers Its First Seismic Survey Vessel

Singapore, 28 March 2011 – ST Marine has successfully delivered its first Seismic Survey Vessel to Swire  Pacific  Offshore  Operations  (Pte)  Ltd  (Swire),  a  wholly  owned  subsidiary  of  Swire  Pacific Limited. In December  2008,  ST Marine  announced  the S$30m  contract  to  provide  detailed  design  and  to construct  the 68-metre Vessel  for Swire. Work  commenced  in 2009. The  contract  from Swire was awarded on  the back of a charter which Swire secured with a major player  in  the seismic market.

ST Engineering-Contract for Survey Vessel

Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) announced that its marine arm, Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd (ST Marine), has secured a S$30m contract to provide detailed design, construction and outfitting of a 228 ft seismic survey vessel for Swire Pacific Offshore Operations (Pte) Ltd (SPO), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Swire Pacific Limited. Construction is expected to commence in May 2009 and delivery is planned for the second half of 2010. This contract is not expected to have any material impact on the consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share of ST Engineering for the current financial year.
