Orsted Taiwan Ltd announced that it has signed a 20-year wharf lease with Taiwan International Ports Corp (TIPC) for the development of its offshore wind farms (OWF) off Changhua County.The global offshore wind leader announced the signing of a wharf lease and a 20-year operations and maintenance (O&M) lease with the Port of Taichung, managed by Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) and TIPC Marine Construction, respectively.The Ørsted leased wharfs at the Port of Taichung will be upgraded and utilized for the construction of the Greater Changhua offshore wind farms, and the O&M site will serve as the O&M base for Ørstedās Changhua offshore wind farms from 2022 onwards.Ørstedās Greater Changhua wind farms are located approximately 35-60 kilometers off the coast of Changhua County.

Roughly half of Hanjin Shipping Co Ltd's container vessels have been blocked from ports since the South Korean firm's collapse, putting manufacturers and their customers increasingly on edge about the fate of cargo and spikes in freight costs. OOCL Won't Accept Hanjin Cargo
Hong Kong's Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) said it has stopped loading cargoes and containers from South Korea's Hanjin Shipping Co Ltd , which has filed for court receivership. OOCL's cargo units will also no longer be loaded on vessels operated by Hanjin Shipping, the world's seventh-largest container shipper, according to a notice posted on its website www.oocl.com and emailed to customers. Evergreen Naming Ceremony for EVER LUNAR
Evergreen Group held the naming ceremony for EVER LUNAR today, the seventh of its L-type vessels to be built by CSBC Corporation in Taiwan. The ceremony, which was officiated by Ms. Lee-Ching Ko, Second Vice Group Chairman of Evergreen Group, took place at CSBC's Kaohsiung shipyard. The official rope-cutting of the new 8,508 TEU vessel was performed by Mrs. Lin, Mei-Chun. EVER LUNAR is owned by Evergreen Marine Corporation (Taiwan) Ltd. The ship is 334.8 meters in length, 45.8 meters wide and has a draft of 14.2 meters. In common with its L-type sister ships, EVER LUNAR can cruise at speeds up to 24.5 knots. The ship will be delivered into service in January and join Evergreen Line's Far East - Arabian Persian Gulf (APG) Service.
Container Shipper Nautilus Files for Bankruptcy
Nautilus Holdings Ltd, a Bermuda-chartered company that leases containerships, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in New York, becoming the latest victim of a depressed shipping industry. The company has about $770 million in debt, according to papers filed late Monday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan. International shipping rates have fallen in recent years as large new vessels entered service at the same time that a sluggish global economy was curbing trade. Nautilus said it had some profitable charter contracts and believed it was well-positioned to restructure its obligations, but it filed for bankruptcy protection to bring creditors into a single forum for negotiations.

Leading class society ClassNK announced that it has certified the Bridge Resource Management (BRM), Electronic Chart Display Information Systems (ECDIS) and Engine-room Resource Management (ERM) training courses offered by the Evergreen Seafarer Training Center (ESTC). The new certification confirms that the training programs meet the requirements of ClassNK standards, IMO model course requirements and the STCW Code. Evergreen Affirms Commitment to the Port of Kaohsiung
Evergreen Marine Corp (Taiwan) Ltd, which currently operates two large container terminals in the Port of Kaohsiung, has extended its lease on its Container Terminal No 4 facility (Piers 115 and 116) for a further 10 years. The lease extension contract, which covers the period from 1 March 2008 to 28 February 2018, was signed by EMCās President, Jack Yen, and Director-General of the Kaohsiung Harbour Bureau, Ming-Hui Shieh, at the Evergreen International building in Taoyuan on 27 December. Container Terminal No 4 opened for business in 1987 on a 206,480m² site with a total quay length of 596m. The berths are served by six post-Panamax gantry cranes, 26 rail mounted gantry cranes and six empty container stackers.

EMC, OOCL and YML to Launch THX Service
Evergreen Marine Corp (Taiwan) Ltd (EMC), Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd (OOCL) and Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp (YML), announced that they will jointly operate a twice weekly Taiwan/Hong Kong to Vietnam Express Service with a round voyage time of 21 days. The new service has been named Taiwan/Hong Kong/Ho Chi Minh Express Service (THX). A total of three containerships, each with 900TEU operating capacity, will be deployed on the THX service with commencement around April 4, starting from Kaohsiung.

The United States Attorneys from five judicial districts with major ports today announced criminal charges against Evergreen International, S.A. (Evergreen), one of many Evergreen-related companies involved in the container ship business. Under the terms of a plea agreement, Evergreen will pay $25 million, the largest-ever amount for a case involving deliberate vessel pollution, and plead guilty to felony charges brought in Los Angeles; Newark, NJ; Portland, OR; Seattle; and Charleston, SC. Evergreen pleaded guilty today to 24 felony counts and one misdemeanor - five counts from each federal district involved in the case - for concealing the deliberate, illegal discharge of waste oil and for a negligent discharge in the Columbia River.
