DP World to Install Innovative BOXBAY Container Storage System in Busan

UAE-based logistics giant DP World announced its BOXBAY high-bay storage system will be installed to boost container handling efficiency at its terminal in Busan, South Korea.BOXBAY was developed by DP World in a joint venture with German plant technology supplier SMS group, who first created and proved the system for handling heavy metal coils. New Autonomous Ferry to Launch in Stockholm

A new electrically powered, autonomously operated ferry service is slated to launch in the Stockholm city center this spring.Norwegian shipping company Torghatten plans to have services in place this spring in Riddarfjärden, between two inner-city quays. The ferry that will operate on the crossing is an autonomously operated electric vessel that runs on batteries. It has been designed and built by the Bröderna Aa shipyard in Hyen, Norway and the autonomous operation system is provided by technology supplier Zeabuz in Trondheim…

VLSFO: Threats Remain for Shipowners

The IMO low sulphur fuel cap introduced in January 2020 has not eradicated the potential threats from cat fines, sludge, compatibility issues, asphaltene and fuel stability - the five key issues that can damage the health and maintenance of diesel engines, according to Aderco, a fuel treatment technology supplier.Aderco has recently released a new report to improve fuel performance and prevent damage to maritime diesel engines. The report follows a series of tests conducted in Belgium and Singapore on low sulphur fuels over recent months.

GEA Marine Separator Bags New Orders

Eco-friendly Power for Container Ships in Hamburg Port

Port of Hamburg is taking a further step toward improving air quality at its port. Innovative technology developed right here in the city is set to enable large and very large container ships to switch off their auxiliary diesel supplies during lay time and instead draw the power they need for on-board operations from a new kind of mobile generator.Becker Marine Systems, Hapag-Lloyd AG and Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) have been testing the new technology as part of a joint pilot project since the start of the year. Technology supplier Becker Marine Systems developed the mobile power generator, then partnered with Hapag-Lloyd and HHLA for the test phase.

Kongsberg to Equip 10 Newbuild Pipelayers

Kongsberg Maritime has been chosen to deliver substantial technology packages for ten new pipelaying vessels ordered by Brazilian multinational energy corporation, Petrobras. In contracts valued approx. NOK 118 Million, the scope of supply includes Kongsberg Maritime’s offshore vessel technology including Dynamic Positioning (DP), position reference systems, propulsion control and automation. Six 550-tonne laying tension capacity pipelayers will be built at IHC Merwede in The Netherlands for delivery in 2015 and 2016. Three of the vessels, for Subsea 7, are identical designs to the recently launched ‘Seven Waves’, and will feature the same K-POS DP22 dual redundant DP system including HiPAP acoustic positioning system and other position reference systems from Kongsberg Maritime.

Mobilarm to Supply MSLD's to Dutch Navy

Global marine safety equipment provider, Mobilarm Limited announced today that it has secured its first production order for 90 Crewsafe V200 Maritime Survivor Locating Devices (MSLD) from the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNN) for use in submarine escape and rescue. The order forms part of a RNN upgrade of all submarine escape and rescue equipment, including new escape systems, escape suits and emergency locating beacons. The order was secured following successful field trials of the Crewsafe V200 for the United States Naval Sea Systems Command (“NAVSEA”) in June and July 2011. The NAVSEA testing was the final stage of the Foreign Comparative Testing (FCT) contract awarded to Mobilarm in April 2010.
