Tema Port MPS Terminal 3 to Begin Phase 3

Ten Turkish Sailors Seized by Pirates off Nigeria

Ten Turkish sailors were taken hostage by armed pirates who attacked a Turkish-flagged cargo ship off the coast of Nigeria, the vessel's owner said on Tuesday, adding that another eight sailors were left safely aboard.Turkey's foreign ministry said the sailors were seized on Saturday evening. Tema Port T3 Welcomes First Cargo Vessel

Vessel Training Simulation at Tema Port

The first vessel has successfully docked at Tema Port’s new MPS Terminal 3, Ghana, said a statement from APM Terminals.The container vessel will be used for training purposes over the coming weeks, to ensure that the terminal runs smoothly from day one, when operations begin later this month on June 28.Chartering the test vessel will cost around 250,000 Dollars. Denmark, Ghana Pact to Enhance e-Navigation

Ghana and Denmark signed a Memoranda of Agreement to enhance e-navigation in the maritime sector and support implementation of international maritime regulations.The Minister of Transport, Ghana  Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, along with the newly appointed Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority, Thomas Kofi Alonsi and the Director General Andreas Nordseth from the Danish Maritime Authority, signed the contract for three-year collaboration.The contract was also signed by the Danish Minister for Industry Business and Financial Affairs.The signing marked the continuation of the maritime collaboration between Ghana and Denmark which started in 2015.

Tema Port To Be Expanded

Ghana President John Dramani Mahama has launched the start of major expansion works at the Tema Port, near Accra, according to local reports. This ambitious project involves an upgrade and significant expansion of Ghana’s main seaport. The project is a Public Private Partnership between the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), representing the Ghana Government and Meridian Ports Services (MPS). The Port Of Tema Is the largest port in Ghana. Situated on the eastern coast of the country it stretches over a 3.9 million square metres of land area. The port receives an average of over 1650 vessel calls per year. These comprise container vessels, general cargo vessels, tankers, Ro-Ro and cruise vessels amongst many others.

Maersk to Boost Investments in Ghana

Maersk Group says it is committed to a long-term partnership with Ghana, and will boost its investments in the country. Accroding to local media report, the Maersk Group Chief Executive Officer, Nils S. Andersen, revealed that Maersk is interested in playing an active role in Ghana’s growth through investments in trade, infrastructure and energy. “Together with our partners, we have committed $1.5billion to the expansion of the port in Tema which would create probably the largest and most modern terminal in sub Saharan Africa. GPHA Gets $1.5 bln for Tema Port Expansion

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has received 1.5 billion dollars for the expansion of the Tema Port. The authority today signed a 35-year Concessionary Agreement with the Meridian Port Services (MPS) to boost expansion activities at the port. The Minister for Transport, Dzifa Attivor who witnessed the signing in Accra said the project will enhance the efficiency of the Port and make it more competitive. The expansion project which is scheduled to be completed in three years includes plans for the potential construction of additional terminal facilities, including bulk, liquid bulk and general cargo terminals, as global trade with Africa continue to accelerate.

Maersk, Partners to Invest $1.5b in Ghana Port Terminal

Danish shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk said on Friday its APM Terminals unit would together with partners invest $1.5 billion to upgrade its Tema port terminal in Ghana and add 3.5 million TEUs in annual throughput capacity.   Partners are Bollore Africa Logistics and the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority.   (Reporting by Sabina Zawadzki, editing by Anna Ringstrom)

Maersk Mulls African Expansion

AP. Moeller-Maersk A/S, owner of the world’s largest shipping container line Maersk Line is to drive to secure contracts to build and upgrade ports in Nigeria and Kenya, according to Bloomberg. Maersk is awaiting a final sign-off on a contract to help build a new port in Badagry in Nigeria’s southern Lagos state, according to Lars Reno Jakobsen, the company’s senior vice president for Africa. Maersk Confirms $1.5bn for Ghana Port

The Maersk Group has reaffirmed its commitment to support the expansion of Ghana’s Port of Tema to the tune of US$1.5 billion. The Group Chief Executive Officer of the multinational transport and energy giant Maersk Group, Nils Smedegaard Andersen, has re-assured of the company’s readiness to inject US$1.5billion to boost the ongoing expansion works at the Tema Port. The Maersk Group’s subsidiary, APM Terminals, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Ghana in November last year to expand the Tema Port. Andersen said funding arrangements for the project have been secured pending the signing of a concession agreement between Maersk’s key partner Meridian Ports Services (MPS) and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).

MoA for APM Terminals in Ghana Port Deal

Port operator APM Terminals, a unit of shipping and oil conglomerate A.P. Moller-Maersk , said on Thursday it had signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Ghana to expand its Tema Port. APM Terminals said the agreement included a "private investment" in excess of $1 billion by Meridian Port Services of which APM Terminals controls 35 percent. "Both in the short- and long-term view we see Ghana as a country with great potential," Peder Søndergaard head of Africa and Middle East activities in APM Terminals told Reuters. Meridian Port Services (MPS) is a joint venture between APM Terminals, Bolloré Africa Logistics and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority.

Hapag-Lloyd Launches New Service Between Asia and Africa

Hapag-Lloyd will launch a new service called WSX in July to serve the market between Asia, South and . The new WSX service has been designed to meet Hapag Lloyd’s existing and future customer requirements for a direct fixed day service between the two continents. The service will deploy five ships with capacities ranging between 2,000 and 2,500 TEU with adequate reefer plugs.
