Wärtsilä and Volvo Penta to Collaborate

Wärtsilä will start servicing and selling large Volvo Penta engines for commercial shipping applications, initially in selected markets and later globally. Volvo Penta has broadened its engine range to cover commercial vessels and the company now offers engines for increasingly large vessels for both main engine and auxiliary engine duties. The largest engines have outputs of 2,000 horsepower (1,470 kW). Wärtsilä marine engines are considerably larger than these, the largest having outputs of 108,920 horsepower (80,080 kW) . Wärtsilä is the world's leading supplier of ship power and propulsion systems. The respective product ranges of the two companies complement each other very well.

Wärtsilä Acquires Engine Repair and Reconditioning Business

Wärtsilä entered into an agreement to acquire the engine repair and reconditioning business from Metalock Singapore Ltd., at the beginning of the year. This deal has now received the requisite approval of the company's shareholders and authorities. The business will be consolidated in Wärtsilä effective May 20, 2002. The acquisition price is approximately $4.9 million. The business has an annual net sales of $8 million and 87 employees. The acquired business will be called Ciserv Singapore Pte Ltd and it is located in Singapore. It will specialize in repairing and reconditioning marine engines, focusing in particular on low-speed engines in the South East Asian region. Wärtsilä Singapore provides other maintenance services for Wärtsilä's marine and power plant customers.

New Ciserv Company to Serve Baltic

Wärtsilä Corporation and the BLRT Grupp of Estonia have agreed to set up a joint venture to service ships in the Baltic area. The new company will be named Oü Ciserv BLRT Baltica and will be a "one-stop" shop for servicing ships covering all aspects of ship repairs, as well as servicing multiple engine brands, boilers, hydraulics, gearboxes, winches, pipework valves, armatures, propellers, shafting, and other ship equipment. The joint venture will be owned 51% by Wärtsilä and 49% by the BLRT Grupp. Ciserv BLRT Baltica will operate in Tallinn, Estonia. The new company will start with some 65 employees in Tallinn but with the facility to draw on the extensive resources of both Ciserv and the BLRT Grupp according to the needs of individual service jobs.

New Ciserv Company to Serve the Baltic Region

Wärtsilä Corporation and the BLRT Grupp of Estonia will set up a joint venture to service ships in the Baltic area. The joint venture will be owned 51% by Wärtsilä and 49% by the BLRT Grupp. Establishing a service company is integral to Wärtsilä's strategy of strengthening its position as the Total Service supplier to its marine customers. Ciserv, the group of service companies owned by Wärtsilä, will be integrated within Wärtsilä's service organization with effect from May 1. Operating under the new name Wärtsilä Services, the business will be one of the largest worldwide service organizations in the power and marine industries.

Wärtsilä Boosts Service with Gerhardt Acquisition

Wärtsilä signed an agreement to acquire the assets of Gerhardt Holding Co., Inc. The company specializes in the servicing of control and automation equipment for gas and diesel engines and steam turbines. The operations to be acquired have annual net sales totaling approximately $28.6 million and 128 employees. The purchase price is $10 million. Acquisition is part of Wärtsilä's growth strategy in Service. The family-owned company is headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Gerhardt Holding Co. Inc. offers control and automation equipment service for both marine and land-based installations. The company is strongly positioned regionally in the Gulf of Mexico and on the east and west coasts of the U.S.

IMO Pumps Serviced by Ciserv

Ciserv AB of Gothenburg, a member of the Wärtsilä group, has signed a cooperation agreement with the Swedish pump manufacturer IMO AB in September 2005 to serve the users of IMO pumps. This is the first co-operation agreement signed by a Ciserv company with IMO, and similar agreements will be signed by other Ciserv companies in other countries world-wide. This cooperation agreement makes an important addition to the range of products and services offered by Ciserv and will improve the component availability for the customers. Ciserv will work as IMO's extended arm to supply also services for upgradings of existing installations in a wide range of applications. The agreement is designed to increase the availability of IMO pumps to their users.

Wärtsilä Acquires JMC Marine

Wärtsilä has signed a letter of intent to acquire a Danish propulsion system service company JMC Marine A/S. The company, which employs 28 people, specializes on propulsion system maintenance based on laser measuring technology and has a $3.5 Million turnover. "This acquisition will further strengthen Wärtsilä's total service offerings. Our aim is to provide as broad a spectrum as possible of tailored solutions and expertise know-how covering every aspect of operation and maintenance. The know-how developed by JMC Marine speeds up and improves customer service", says Tage Blomberg, Group vice president and Head of the Service division. Wärtsilä Aquires Caltax

Wärtsilä has acquired Dutch marine service company Caltax Marine Diesel BV, a subsidiary of the Traas van Houte Beheer BV. The acquisition also consists of a workshop. Wärtsilä will acquire the engine reconditioning business from Metalock (Singapore) Ltd. The acquisition will consist of the marine engine repair and recondition business and the workshop. Wärtsilä will pay a consideration of $ 4.7 million for the acquisition. The sales volume of the acquired business is $7.7 million and number of employees is 87.
