First of Four FPSOs Deployed at Petrobras' Mero Field
The Guanabara FPSO has arrived at the Mero field in the Santos Basin, offshore Brazil, the Brazilian state-run oil company Petrobras has informed.The FPSO, also known as Mero 1, will be the first 'definitive' oil production system at the Mero field, the third largest pre-salt field behind Búzios and Tupi. MODEC is responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, mobilization, installation and operation of the FPSO, including topsides processing equipment as well as hull and marine systems.
Modec Signs LOI for FPSO with Petrobras
MODEC Inc. received a letter of intent (LOI) from Petróleo Brasileiro for the supply, charter, and operations of a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel for the Búzios field.The firm time charter period of the contract is 21 years, it said in a press release.The new LOI will be the fifth FPSO deployed at the Búzios field, however it is the first chartered production unit for the region. Sulzer Acquires License for Total’s Wash Tank Technology
Sulzer’s Chemtech division has been granted a license covering the Total-patented Wash Tank Technology for Oil Processing. The main purpose of this technology is to enhance the removal of water, salt and contaminants from oil and emulsions, by a controlled distribution of the feed into the bottom of a hull tank of an FPSO/FSO/FPU which transforms the water-in-oil dispersion into an oil-in-water one where high efficiency phase separation takes place more easily. The technology also involves a simplification of the topsides crude oil process.
Statoil Invests $1.5b in US Offshore Project
Statoil together with co-owners in the Stampede development in the Gulf of Mexicohas sanctioned the Stampede project in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. Statoil said it will invest $1.5 billion in the Stampede development, which is expected to begin production in 2018. Statoil owns 25% of Stampede, which is operated by Hess. Stampede, a new project named from unitizing the former discoveries of Knotty Head and Pony, is located approximately 350 kilometers (215 miles) from New Orleans, Louisiana at a water depth of more than 1,000 meters (3,500 feet). The reservoir depth is 9,100 meters (30,000 feet).
Second Modular Capture Vessel for US Operation
Drydocks World announced the completion and delivery of Eagle Louisiana, the second of two Modular Capture Vessels (MCV) for the U.S. The first MCV, Eagle Texas, sailed away from Drydocks World’s yard in August last year. The vessels are the world’s first MCVs. International service provider Drydocks World announced that the world’s first Modular Capture Vessel (MCV), Eagle Texas, sailed away from its yard. The conversion of the AFRA max tanker was carried out by Drydocks World – Dubai and was completed for Singapore based AET, a global leader in petroleum shipping, and is the first of two similar projects. ABS Wins Class Contract for FPSO
Reports indicate that ABS has been awarded the class contract for the Agbami FPSO by South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering. ABS will class the Star Deep Water Petroleum Ltd. (an affiliate of Chevron Corp.) newbuild unit as an XA1 FPSO, which includes review of the FPSO hull structure, topsides, processing equipment, mooring systems, utility and safety systems, as well as accommodations and the offloading systems. The integration of the topside structure with the hull structure is critical. The 13 topsides modules will weigh about 35,000 tons, requiring close review of the loads as well as calculations for the hull's strength and fatigue assessment.
