Torqeedo Powers Electric Workboat Fleet in China

The City of Suzhou in eastern China has deployed a fleet of electric workboats powered by Torqeedo motors as part of a program to clean up its canals and waterways. The ancient city of Suzhou, located in Jiangsu Province near Shanghai, is home to more than 10 million people. Often called the “Venice of the East” the 2,500 year old city is noted for its many canals, rivers, lakes, ancient stone bridges, pagodas and gardens. Suzhou Creek, which flows through the city to Shanghai, was at one time said to be the most contaminated waterway in China, filled with sewage and garbage.

Torqeedo Launches Commercial-grade Cruise Motor

Torqeedo has updated its electric outboards with a new design to meet the demands of commercial users. Available in comes in 5 hp and 8 hp equivalents, the Cruise is an electric solution for pontoon boats, sailboats, small boats, workboats, water taxis and users on lakes that limit the use of combustion motors since its introduction in 2008. The redesigned line now features an aluminum lower housing which protects against impact damage and provides increased mechanical support for the propeller shaft.

Team Scarab, in conjunction with Torqeedo Motors and Ruckmarine, is pleased to announce the launch of the KONA 17' SportRIB, the first zero-emission, all-electric sport boat. The Kona debuts at the Progressive Insurance San Francisco Boat Show, January 23-26 at Pier 48 in San Francisco, California. The sport boat, powered by Torqeedo's multi-award winning Deep Blue electric outboard 40 hp system, has been integrated with the Kona 17, a modern throwback to the fun, simple family sports boat of the '60s and '70s. Torqueedo Sweeps Electric Motor Race

Torqeedo recently won first, second and third places in the 13th annual Wye Island Electric Boat Challenge in St. Michaels, Maryland. This is the second time Torqeedo-powered boats have swept the 24-mile, electric motor-only race. In all the years of the race, any boat with a Torqeedo motor has always finished the marathon and this year was no exception. All Torqeedo-powered vessels crossed the finish line after completing the circumnavigation of Wye Island. This year five boats were powered by Torqeedo motors.
