Type 45 Destroyer Duncan Delivered to the Royal Navy

The sixth and final Type 45 destroyer, Duncan, has been delivered to HM Naval Base Portsmouth by BAE Systems and will be handed over to the U.K. Ministry of Defense at a ceremony. Duncan arrived into her new home of Portsmouth for the first time this morning with a combined BAE Systems and Royal Navy crew. The official handover ceremony will take place on the ship’s flightdeck with the crew raising the White Ensign on the ship for the first time to signify her acceptance by the Ministry of Defense.

Duncan: Final Type 45 Destroyer on Sea Trials

DUNCAN, the sixth and final Type 45 destroyer built by BAE Systems, has today set sail from the company’s Scotstoun shipyard on the Clyde to embark on her second stage sea trials off the west coast of Scotland. During the next 19 days at sea, DUNCAN will undertake an extensive program of trials, including final testing of the ship’s power and propulsion, combat systems, navigational and communications equipment ahead of her handover to the Royal Navy in March next year. Pall Corporation selected by BAE Systems to supply freshwater generator systems for the UK Royal Navy’s Type 45 Destroyer. The Type 45 ships are designed and built by BAE Systems and are the most advanced warships ever produced in the UK. The Pall Integrated Membrane System (IMS) freshwater generator is designed to transform any type of sea water into drinkable water. Sea trials have demonstrated that it works efficiently with the high contamination levels found in some coastal waters.
