Maersk Training has named David Skov as its new CEO as the firm looks to expand its presence in the worldwide offshore energy and maritime markets.Skov was previously Regional Head of Terminals, Africa & Middle East at APM Terminals, part of A.P. Tim Kelly is the New CEO of Adriatic LNG

Tim Kelly has replaced Suresh Jagadesan as the Managing Director of Adriatic LNG, which operates the regasification terminal located offshore from the Veneto coast.Before joining Adriatic LNG, Tim worked as the Marine Operations Manager at ExxonMobil’s gas liquefaction plant in Papua New Guinea.Tim has almost 40 years’ experience in the marine and Oil&gas sectors, starting his career in the Merchant navy. Earliest Known Marine Navigation Tool Found

State-of-the-art laser scanning technology has helped researchers to confirm that an artifact recovered from the wreck of a sunken 15th century ship in the Indian Ocean is the earliest known marine navigation tool. When the Blue Water Recovery team found the object in 2014, they believed it was an astrolabe used by mariners to measure the altitude of the sun during voyages, but they were not certain as there were no visible navigational markings. The team approached Professor Williams, who conducts high-tech scanning analyses in his laboratory at WMG University of Warwick in the U.K.

Women Engineers Play Key Role in Submarine Races

MOre than 100 young people from 11 universities from six countries on three continents gather to take part in the European International Submarine Races. Wilhelmsen Ships Service is underlining its commitment to the protection of the environment by appointing a new Head of Environment, Thea Corwin. Thea, who takes up the position on 1st January 2011, will be dedicated to developing a vision, policy, strategy and related plans for the implementation of environmental safeguards throughout the organisation in relation to the marine market. Wilhelmsen Ship Service’s Central Management Team considers the new position to be vital in its aim to develop the company’s position on aspects of environmental concern.

Mazarakis COO, Kanellopoulos CFO, Excel Maritime

Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd (NYSE: EXM), an owner and operator of dry bulk carriers and an international provider of worldwide seaborne transportation services for dry bulk cargoes, announced that Charalampos Mazarakis has been appointed as the Company's Chief Operating Officer. Mazarakis will assume his position in mid May 2010. The company also announced that Pavlos Kanellopoulos has been appointed as the company's Chief Financial Officer. Kanellopoulos will assume his position in early April 2010. Mazarakis has 20 years of experience in finance and operations positions, mostly at a senior level. Mazarakis started his career in 1991 at Procter & Gamble in Greece.

Hodge Chair for IMarEST Board of Trustees
