L3 Maritime Systems said it has received an $11 million contract from VSE Corporation to upgrade the Machinery Control Systems (MCS) on two minehunting ships for the Egyptian Navy. These ships were formerly U.S. Navy Osprey-class vessels, and L3 supplied the legacy control systems. L3 Maritime Systems’ MCS solutions provide advanced automation and control of the ships’ propulsion, electrical, ventilation and other systems. They will be implemented using ruggedized industrial control system equipment to enhance supportability by the Egyptian Navy. The U.S. government has approved the sale to the government of the Philippines of two Sea Giraffe radars and related equipment, support and training for about $25 million, the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency said on Wednesday. The Philippines requested the sale to improve monitoring of its territorial waters. The radars will be installed on two Philippines Navy ships and the principle contractors will be VSE Corp and Saab. Ship management company V.Ships has chosen Wärtsilä to provide maintenance services for its client Phoenix Reisen's cruise vessel M/S Artania. VSE Corporation's GLOBAL Division teamed with the U.S. Naval Sea Systems command December 1 at a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the official opening of the Iraqi Navy Ship Repair Facility (SRF) in Umm Qasr, Iraq. VSE helped develop the SRF, which now serves as the Iraqi Navy's maintenance headquarters. The SRF is one of the first fully operational facilities in Iraq as part of the post war infrastructure sustainment. The facility, which was procured as part of a larger Foreign Military Sales case with the Iraqi Navy, will support five different vessel classes. Assisting in the development and management of the facility includes VSE Iraq Team Leader Steve Bennett and VSE Iraq Team Program Manager Hal Jones. SpecTec has been contracted for the delivery of a comprehensive IDEA management software system to M/Y Slipstream and sister vessel M/Y Cloud Nine. Both vessels are currently under construction at CMN shipyard in Cherbourg, France and are due for delivery in February and June 2009 respectively. The contract, entitled SeaPort Enhanced ("SeaPort-e"), is a multiple award, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract, and accordingly, actual VSE revenue estimates for the contract cannot be predicted.
