LR Announces Maritime Executive Leadership Appointments

Aqualis Offshore, Skuld Maritime Agency Under Investigation in Scrapping Case

Aqualis Offshore and Norwegian Insurer Skuld Maritime Agency are under investigation for their involvement in the attempt to illegally export the Harrier to Pakistan for scrapping.NGO Shipbreaking Platform, quoting DN said that Aqualis Offshore issued two certificates for the ship – one for a break-up voyage to Pakistan, another for a voyage to Oman – and it is suspected that the latter was issued to dupe Norwegian authorities in order to circumvent the European waste export ban.Skuld Maritime Agency was involved in issuing the last-voyage insurance for the vessel and is therefore being investigated for having aided the illegal export.The former and current owners of the ship…

MCTAYS Invests $1.7m in Facility Upgrade

A shipbuilder has invested more than $1.7million (£1million) at its headquarters, including upgrading a slipway which is now capable of accommodating vessels up to 2,000 metric tons. MCTAYS, the shipbuilding subsidiary of HS Ocean Group of Companies, opened the upgraded slipway at its yard in Birkenhead on the banks of the River Mersey to coincide with its 40th anniversary. Peter Breslin, Managing Director of MCTAYS, said the slipway will enable the shipyard to accommodate vessels up to 90 meters in length: “Over the last 40 years, MCTAYS has built 120 specialist ships and marine structures.

British Shipbuilder Lands Thames Barge Contract

McTays, the shipbuilding subsidiary of HS Ocean Group (HSOG), was awarded a contract to design and build four barges by waste management company Cory Environmental. The barges designed by McTays will be lighter and offer greater flexibility in order to meet Cory’s requirements. The 12 month contract will underpin 60 jobs within the company’s shipyard for 12 months and will benefit the local supply chain. Damen Shipyards Galati launch Nuclear Cargo Vessel 1600 for the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company (SKB). Damen Shipyards GalaĹŁi (DSGa) located in Romania, a member of Damen Shipyards Group, launched the specialist cargo ship which will replace her predecessor M/S Sigyn, which has been in service during the past 30 years. The vessel is designed and built by Damen, with Damen Shipyards Gorinchem (The Netherlands) providing the design and the major equipment and DSGa (Romenia) building and finishing the high-tech vessel.
