Ship Traffic Resumes in Bosphorus Strait After Incident

Ship traffic in Turkey's Bosphorus Strait is set to resume for northbound vessels as of 1700 GMT on Sunday, after a suspension due to an anchor failure on one ship, the Tribeca shipping agency said.According to a report shared by the agency, the Liberia-flagged tanker Peria's anchor self-released due to bad weather around the Yavuz Sultan Selim bridge area during its passage through the strait and tugs were dispatched for assistance.The ship will proceed to the Kucukcekmece anchorage area under escort tugs, the report also said.(Reuters - Reporting by Ezgi Erkoyun; Editing by Hugh Lawson)

Bosphorus Strait Reopens After Grounding

The Bosphorus Strait in Turkey reopened at 3:40 p.m. local time on July 21 following the grounding of general cargo ship Majed & Randy due to mechanical failure, Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS) advised.   ISS also advised that the Bosphorus Strait will be closed again in both directions on July 22 from approximately 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. due to ongoing construction works on the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, initially named the Third Bosphorus Bridge.    The exact reopening time of the Bosphorus Strait on July 22 will depend on the completion of the work and could be extended.

Bosphorus Strait Further Closure

Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS) is advising that the Bosphorus Strait in Turkey will be closed in both directions on 15 July between 07:00-14:00 approximately due to the ongoing construction works on the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge (initially named the Third Bosphorus Bridge). Bosphorus traffic will be suspended to all transit passages during this time. The exact re-opening time of the Bosphorus Strait on 15 July will depend on the completion of the work and could be extended. The Bosphorus Strait is a key shipping channel in the region for commodities. ISS will monitor the closure and keep its clients updated.
