Cruise West Announces Adds Ships, Itineraries
Cruise West announced that it has acquired the Yorktown Clipper and the Nantucket Clipper previously part of the Clipper Cruise Line fleet. The 138-guest Yorktown Clipper and 102-guest Nantucket Clipper are U.S.-flagged coastal cruise ships that will join Cruise West's fleet of American-owned vessels. The new ships will sail the 2006 itineraries on the East Coast, Great Lakes, Caribbean, Alaska, Mexico and Central America that were already published by Clipper Cruise Line, but under Cruise West ownership and management. Cruise West is the largest American small-ship cruise line and will now be operating 10 vessels accommodating 70 to 138 guests on itineraries in Alaska, Mexico, Costa Rica, on the Columbia River, in California Wine Country, the South Pacific, and Japan.
Vessels Make Pit Stop At Bay Ship
Traditionally Alaskan cruise vessels are known to make regular stopovers at Bay Ship & Yacht Co.'s Alameda, Calif. shipyard and drydock facility for routine maintenance and repairs. The yard has served as host to clients, such as Special Expedition Marine, which brought in its Sea Bird and Sea Lion vessels before reaching their winter destinations in either Mexico or the Caribbean. Swiss-based Kuoni Travel Holding Ltd. finalized its $115-million acquisition of INTRAV, the U.S. luxury tour operator, and its subsidiary, Clipper Cruise Line, which are based in St. Louis. Effective immediately, Ian Coghlan will become CEO of both companies, replacing Paul H. Duynhouwer, who has acquired a majority stake in Clipper's two U.S.-flag ships, Nantucket Clipper and Yorktown Clipper. In addition, Duynhouwer will be the majority owner and CEO of New World Ship Management, LLC, formed to operate all four Clipper ships, including the two U.S.-flag ships, as well as Bahamian-registered Clipper Adventurer and Clipper Odyssey. Coghlan was educated in the U.K. and joined Kuoni in 1985 in the finance department.
